Don't worry. I read enough books in my life and I am continuing to do so. However I am not brainwashed by this crappy propaganda. I am asking once again, what the f means appropriation of black culture as black people around the world are completely different. Even if we talk only about USA, you should realize how unfair and stupid is to talk about appropriation of culture. Going the same direction I could say that Christianity is appropriation of white culture, or classical music, or opera singing, or football etc. etc.. IT IS STUPID

Its a long process to explain. Most black people over do it. But one example I can think of is hairstyles. It's "ghetto" and "black" if a black woman wears her natural hair or any black hairstyle: braids, locs, twist, afro. But when Kylie or Justin Bieber do it, its all of a sudden "hip" and "cool" and "fresh".

Its basically when a person tries to do things as if they were black and have gone through what black people have. I get why you are confused, but saying it's stupid because you don't understand something is quite juvenile. And no, if you're born in africa doesn't mean you're black.

The only problem I see here is that he's a misogynistic slut shaming piece of ****.

You can be black Moroccan. Moroccan is not a race it is a nationality and in Morocco there are Moroccans of black descent as well as of Berber and Arab descent. But he truly should not have said that at all. How rude of him to go off on her that way! What she said wasn't even that bad lol. Too bad this misogyny is widespread in rap culture in general. He probably believes he didn't do something bad.

Black women often have blond hairs and "white" hair styles? Is this appropriation of white culture? 90% of the time Beyonce has "white"hair style, and we call it cool and sexy..So why such terms and problems are valid only if a white person do it, but not vice versa? The whole problem comes from the fact that ,unfortunately for many people discrimination is something that only black, latino etc. people could experience, but not the bad white people. Fun fact, slave comes from the french esclave which comes from the slavic people. You know why, because the WHITE slavic people were the first slaves and the statistics clearly shows that through the ages, the white race was the most enslaved. But still, today when we talk about discrimination it's not about the person, but the race. Which is wrong. Everyone could be discriminated no matter the race and everyone should have the right to look, wear and do whatever he/she likes unless it is against the law. So if I want to have an afro hair style or you want to have blue eyes lenses, we should and we could do it, without arguing whether this is an appropriation of this or that...

I understand, but you missed the point. It's acceptable for a black woman to wear weave because it makes them "normal" or more white. To be accepted you have to conform to what the "norm" is. If a black women walked into an interview with an afro or a head full of braids she most likely would not get chosen. If she had a front lace weave, her chances are higher. Society has conditioned black women to believe that "nappy" hair is ugly and nappy is always associated with natural. Some schools even tried to ban certain black hairstyles like locs and natural hair because it was "distracting".  White people won't understand how slavery affected black people because some choose not to. Instead of trying to understand, they say "we were slaves too" and try to pull up random slave facts to compensate with the years of hardship that black slaves went through. Anyone can wear any hairstyle to me, but when they use black culture in a negative way, its irritating. The whole point is to appreciate different cultures without trying to claim them as something new and fresh. Its not a trend to wear braids. Its not a trend to wear locs. Its like me saying bowing to elders to show respect is my new thing i made up.

Fun Fact: A lot of black people have different colored eyes and hair types. There is a tribe in africa that produces an offspring with blonde hair. Those characteristics aren't owned by white people.

I totally understand and I'm not replying to drag you or anything like that, but all of this is assuming all white people have a problem with "black hairstyles", when it's just not the case.

If people could avoid generalising things and people so easily maybe we could move forward !

I understand that too. I guess its hard not to when it seems like the ones with the most power are the ones that look for more of a "normal" looking person for jobs.

What's with all this appropriation of black culture bulsh*t. What the F is black culture, as blacks from Africa are completely different from blacks in North america or in Europe? I am so sick of this whole crap...

Strangely enough, I agree with this (although not a fan of the rhetoric)

Anyone crying "culture appropriation" is just changing its definition (not the only word recently to start losing its meaning) to suit their backlash. Culture appropriation generally involves the "stealing" of aspects of a minority, discriminated, colonized group etc.

I don't see how that applies here.

Also, I'm pretty sure Moroccans are part black and have indigenous/berber roots in NA. And I'd argue are more likely to be discriminated against given their color, race, and religion if they're Muslim (if they have an Arabic/Arabic sounding name...good luck to them tbh).

I'm officially done with this "Social Justice" extremism (I hate the word SJW).

I think cultural appropriation definitely exists, and that certain trends that come from certain groups only get credit when a white person does it. However, I think the term can get thrown around loosely. Music is cross-cultural and can, and should be, expressed through different groups. French Montana may not be 'black', but that doesn't mean as an immigrant from Africa, one who many may perceive to be black on first glance, he does not have certain experience paralleling those of black men in the United States. It has always seemed like he comes from an urban culture, which isn't limited to one race. Urban culture is a mixing-pot of cultures and races.

I don't care for his music and his tweet was messy, but the claims of cultural appropriation here are weak beyond the use of the N-word, which I think is an argument on its own.

I agree on the braids.

I also agree white people won't understand how slavery affected black people. But do African-Americans understand that either? (specifically young African-Americans) As someone part-black, and whose country fairly recently-historically speaking--experienced colonization, not only do I admit I'll never understand the dark history of slavery, but neither do my grandparents or anyone I've met from older generations.

So I don't understand this point you're making.

As for the fun fact, braids, baby hairs, afro and afro-like hair aren't "owned" by black people either :/ Can we all stick together and get rid of this "owning things that are biological" trend going on?

TL;DR I don't see how any of the points you're making directly relate to this French Montanna situation.

Also, not an attack on you personally, just finding this whole thing ludicrous.

Yeah, I think this sums up my opinion on the matter pretty well. Thanks.
