A draft of subjects planned for the 2020 census, the next year the decennial survey will be conducted, initially had a proposal to include sexual orientation and gender identity for the first time. They were referring to Trump's firm position on Islamism. In the wake of the Orlando massacre, it's understandable that some LGBT Americans (Twinks for Trump, Milo's gang, and the Log Cabin Republicans) decided that the threat radical Islam presented to the global LGBT community was of more importance then us being included on the census. If you have no gay people, no need to fund gay causes, gay programs or anti-discriminatory projects. Basically, you have no proof that they are a class of people worth spending any federal dollars on. "This census clearly shows that there are no gay people in our country. REALITY 80,298 Posted March 30, 2017 Share Posted March 30, 2017 What angers me the most is that we (as people in general) tend to see the LGBTQ+ community as a very negative and tabboo thing. It f*cking irritates me that we talk about race, religion, gender equality, but when it comes to the LGBTQ+ community, we're so many steps back that it's just f*cking ridiculous. I'm not saying this to downplay any other civil rights movement or group (obviously all the ones I mentioned above are extremely important and especially relevant in these days), but I'm saying this because whenever the topic of the LGBTQ+ community comes up, people get all shy and nervous to talk about it. I kid you not, I wrote an essay in class that talked about the LGBTQ+ community and how important it is to stick up and stand up for them, and I was reading a part of my essay that talks about statistical murders from LGBTQ+ community—I even brought up the (relatively) recent Orlando shooting—and I heard some people chuckle and laugh at what I was saying. Like, what the actual f*ck?! Laughing and giggling at a topic that's not only so serious, but so vital for many people?! It just shows that we have a long way to go as a community and we have to stand up, fight for our rights, and educate people about the community.
