Keystone Pipeline approved

I'm not sure how much impact this will have since a large part of it has already been built.  The good thing imo is that the US has an alternative source to the Arab oil imports

We need to get away from pipelines and towards renewable resources. True energy independence.

This is the only legit argument or statement that I have seen in sometime that opposes oil or pipeline construction actually. 

 

I don't necessarily advocate increased oil production or continued fossil fuel dependence either.   But until there are better options and a more concerted effort to get energy from renewable nonpolluting sources, this makes more sense than importing oil from hostile if not down right insane governing entities.

I agree but change is gradual and for the moment we still need oil

 

i dont get the extre mentality some lefts have of just going against every single project  

 

if its not approved oil by rail and trucking will keep increasing and thats worse  

 

right winged are just as bad in wanting to approve everything and not trying hard enough to transition green

 

this is why im a moderate. I like to look at things from multiple angles rather than always taking the same stance no matter what 😑

This! Plus pipelines are still safer than trucking it or railing it. If ur gonna use oil why not transport it better and promote North American oil over Arab oil?

 

Also this helps America oil too. Not all barrels of extra capacity have to be added from Canada. It can carry some American oil from northern States too!

 

Again I support transition to green 100%...

 

But just being automatically and stubbornly against every major energy project in my opinion its super narrow minded and very short sighted. You have to look at the big picture and fully understand what it will actually do and not do!!!!

In this instance, it has to do with the fact that the pipeline ran next to a Native American Reservations only water source. If that pipe busts, ever, they're ****ed.

I can accept that reason. As well as the Ogala Aquafer (i dunno if its the same one ur talking about)

 

But many who oppose Keystone are the same ones that just oppose every single project that has any link to carbon. You can tell by their arguments

 

That kind of extreme thinking would never work and if we did every single thing environmentalists wanted us to do our civilization would collapse before no time! WE HAVE TO BE BALANCED we cant say no to everything

 

But dont misunderstand tho i do support green transition and theres things we could focus on more sometimes we fail to do

That is concern and I hope the reroute that section thru a better area.  But intentionally sabotaging construction is a completely off tactic.

If they didn't protest, it wouldn't have been rerouted. I agree, if there were another way, it'd have been a better option, but it just wasn't there.

I don't see the protests as a problem but the physical actions causing more problems than they solved
