Hmm...tbh I'm trying to recall accurately.. I'm not sure, I just know that his popularity was tarnished by the child abuse allegations but he was set for a come back before he died. Also, he still had decent to good sales in the 90s, and even a hit in the late 90s right?

Yes after the child abuse alleations in the 90s his success declined. He was still pretty successful after that, but he didn't rebound

Most generally people are lazy, don't ask them too much, you lose them rather fast.

About OP: Marcel Duchamp was an amazing artist too, but people were lost at him exposing toilet bowl as an art piece. Now he is acknowledged as the legendary satirist of art.

maybe it's probably because when she was at her peak and adored, she dropped Born This Way which rubbed many people the wrong way: too experimental, too "gay", too dark, and too weird for the general public. The shift from TFM to BTW was very quick, public and radical in terms of what she wore (going from alexander McQueen stuff to a dark aesthetic) and how she looked (bleaching her brows & not being "typically" pretty)

Mhmm, no. People were ok with Gaga's weirdness until this happened, then it became too much for them to handle.

Lol my grandma was obsessed with love game and pokerface. She sang along to them when I played them but oh my lord she about had a heart attack when gaga swallowed the rosary beads. She just went on and on about how could gaga call herself a Catholic when she was swallowing rosary beads. So you can sing about bisexuality and riding disco sticks but the rosary beads took it too far? Lol go figure

I think this only applies for the small amount of people who would like her if they gave her a chance.

There's quite a list of reasons to why someone could dislike Gaga.

1. She makes pop music. Some people simply dislike pop music.

2. A lot of her actions have been for attention. Some people hate attention seekers.

3. She's political. Some people disagree with her views.

4. Quite a bit of her music, post TFM hasn't been "easy" to listen to. It's not exactly easy to listen to or as catchy as her early hits.

5. Can come across preachy.

6. Sees her as a copy-cat instead of inspired.

7. She simply rubs some people the wrong way.

I disagree because she was weird af when she came out, so it's not like she went from being gp friendly to too much to take, she always been intense in her appearance.  And at her peak, her music garnered more attention than her looks.

People probably don't like her because she went from the cool, trendy party girl with an out there sense of fashion to a gay activist, and almost seemed to pander to them, which made her the 'gay' artist, then her music, IMO don't get triggered, dropped in quality, and her fashion became more and more off the wall and perhaps tacky, and the gp turned on her, like they do with almost every pop star.

She'll rebound, the greats always have (madonna, MJ, Britney)

This This and This!!! I think the same thing. I love Gaga to death but this is the truth!

I know honestly know the biggest reason why  people dislike Gaga and don't really pay attention to her.

The biggest reason people don't like her is that they truly don't understand her. They really just look at her appearance and gain an opinion off of that ,and just instantly shut her down, not realizing there is much more then what meets the eye. They don't realize the artsy, wild, and talented traits she carries as an artist and a human! They also think she's too "weird", ugly, and irreverent which is total bs! Its quite judgemental, close minded of them and really unfair. I'm not saying everyone should like Gaga, because she doesn't appeal to everyone's taste, and that is fine but... that doesn't mean she should be labeled as some  weird maniac pop alien or whatever they thinks she is and just treat her like she's worthless, trashy and just plain ridiculous.

Do you see where I'm coming from and do you agree?

:applause: The OP is correct.

I was the GP.  I noticed Gaga's weird and freakish stage persona and pegged her as just someone trying to make a living by getting attention, with no actual talent being necessary.  Because once the media discovers you as something they can use to gain viewers and readers, you have it made.  Anything outlandish works.

So I refused to watch or listen to her at all.  Then, by accident, before I could change the channel, in September 2010 I caught part of Speechless live at the VEVO launch event and heard her great phrasing ability.  I am into jazz, not pop, and great phrasing is very important in jazz singing.  I began researching and found that Gaga has actually performed jazz from time to time, and I began putting together a video project about her jazz.  While doing further research I found many interviews and discovered that Gaga is not the freak she appeared to be.  She is a down-to-earth kind person with strong traditional family values who is dedicated to helping people in many ways.  This made me a stan.  I feel what she does as a person is more important than her career achievements.  Her career achievements serve to give her the reach she needs to help even more people.

So yes, Gaga is misunderstood.  But one-by-one, over time, people will notice something they like about her.  It may be something she says on a talk show, it may be The Sound Of Music, it may be the SBHT show, it may be C2C, it may be performing with Metallica.  People will eventually find something they like that they didn't know about Gaga.

"Sometimes I feel like people are trying to destroy me because they just see wigs and lipstick and they shut down because they don't understand". -Gaga

That quote has always stuck with me because it's exactly how I feel. That's why I love gaga so much. She once said that she looked out into the crowds at her shows and she saw a bunch of little "me's" staring back at her. That's why she created little monsters. It was a "home" for the so called "freaks" where we could be loved for who we are. There's a scene in AHS: Hotel where the countess is craddling her baby bartholomeow (the demon/vampire baby). To everyone else he's hideously deformed but to the countess he's the most perfect creation God ever made. I've always wondered if that was a metaphor for us monsters. To everyone else we're "freaks" but to gaga we're the most beautiful creation god ever made.

I agree to a certain degree.... but on the other hand, for a few years she was the biggest star on the planet... so we can't use the "misunderstood" theory just when we find it convenient. I mean, she because famous for being all those things that you say people don't understand.

Yes.  For those who don't know, she explained that exactly that in both an Ellen interview and an Oprah interview.  She said her outfits and shows were to help the kids who were made to feel like they didn't fit in in HS.

Imagine the sacrifice.  She turned off a generation of the public who hated her freakish persona, just to help those kids.  This is the true measure of Gaga's kindness and who she is as a person.

She became very famous among pop music fans, bullied kids, and LGBTQ.  That's a small part of the public.  She was misunderstood by the much larger segment of the public.
