Anaconda was a massive success and it wasn't subtle or discrete about its meaning. I also don't understand how DIC was suppose to be "listened to in private". I mean, I get what you mean (*wink, wink*) but if anything, this song was suppose to be meant to be played out loud and just overall be a very sexy and, overall, relevant (in today's industry) song. Honestly, I'd be okay with A-YO or DIC, but these "It's too sexual" or "It's awkward" arguments don't make any sense to me. There have been plenty of songs, both subtle and not, about sex and they've gotten popular. Also, how is A-YO an "acceptable sex song"? It's a song about paying dust to your haters, not sex. But this is a point that I've repeatedly brought up as well. The genre of the song plays a big part. Anaconda is a rap song and that automatically makes it completely different. Rap and urban songs in general are allowed to be raunchy, that's part and parcel of the genre. As such, no one minds it as much. Urban radio is massive in the US and it'll play explicit songs. That's why songs that are raunchy and have swearing or are very experimental can be hits in America but will flop worldwide where urban radio isn't as much of a force. Anaconda debuted and peaked at #2 in the UK but that's 100% attributed to the fact that this was the days when we used the pre-order system. The song had been on pre-order for 2 months and its sales were also increased by it having a clean version in addition. But it disappeared very quickly after its debut. Radio just couldn't support a song that was so dirty. It's mostly men who have hits with the raunchiest songs. In pop music, you have to have subtle lyrics about sex if you're female. If you want a hit with it, you pretty much have to be under 30 and be considered really hot. Gaga is sex on legs but is weirdly not regarded as a sex symbol by many, so it won't work. The lyrics are far too explicit, conjuring up images, not to mention sounds. I mean, "I do a trick, pretend that I am you until it clicks"? Awwwwwkward. I mean...Jesus. That's dirtier than any rap song out there. Writing this with 2 men must have been the weirdest recording session ever for them. A-Yo is totally about sex. I don't know what fans are going on about saying it's a clapback to the haters. After the opening line about blowing smoke in your face, the lyrics become 100% sexual. "I can't wait to rev you up faster than you can say Ferrari," "got you dripping like no other," "get off on me, my body's got you pleading, light me up and breathe in, mirror on the ceiling"? This is a sex song, make no mistake. And it's acceptable because it's got a mainstream beat that appeals to all generations and has lyrics that could be considered sexy and cool. Anyone who's ever had it playing around non-fans say they've been bopping to it. I wanted it to be the second single so bad. And as we've seen from the VS fashion show, she has great choreo for it that's going to waste. 4 minutes ago, ItWasntLaauv said: Why are people saying that DIC is too tabboo and/or blunt to be a single, did you guys forget what LoveGame's lyrics are or...??? Those lyrics are cute, by sexual standards. Plus, Gaga was really mainstream attractive at that time and it was before she became weird. It worked for its time. It wouldn't work now. I think that partly the reason why Gaga hasn't performed DIC anywhere yet is perhaps because no one will let her because it's too explicit and inappropriate. I think it's telling that she hasn't performed it.

Anaconda: 1. Sampled an extremely popular song that was very camp about its overtly sexual lyrics 2. Still uses innuendos of "anacondas" and "buns" and lots of wordplay to not get too in-your-face about the subject at hand. The problem with Dancin' in Circles isn't that it's too sexual, it's that it's very obviously about masturbation. I won't go into whether or not this subject matter should be taboo or not, but it is so we have to deal with it. Lyrics like "I lay around, touch myself to pass the time" and "All the things that are on my mind vanish as I touch myself" are not gonna be allowed on the radio without significant backlash. The genius of Poker Face and LoveGame are that they use wordplay and metaphors (disco sticks, etc.) that conjure certain images without being explicit. DiC leaves nothing to the imagination, which is intended, but there's no way in hell that people will want it on the radio. And unlike Anaconda, it's not campy enough to be taken humorously--it's clearly supposed to be a serious song. Which is fine, it can stay a fan favorite (for some reason). Charlotte Quinn 1,078
DIC is the song we need right now guys. Sonicly it is a mixture of that tropical vibe which follows the current trend and also some country (the "baby don't cry" bridge/chorus.) Props to the song's producers, putting those two sounds together and making it work as it does is not an easy job. About the lyrics: Ari's getting the good **** everyday on the radio and I heard she can't walk straight no more

The percussion screams reggaeton though. The melody and the way she sings that specific part sound very country imo.
Phlop 4,773
LoveGame flopped though. And Gaga isn't a sex icon. Unfortunately the GP doesn't find her sexy, she's not Rihanna/Beyonce/Katy/Brit that can get away with it, and it's okay. I think DIC is amazing, but it would be a huge risk for her. The song has a catchy beat but the vocals are a little tough sometimes (the "ahhh ahhh" in the chorus) and her pitch changes and the lyrics are not easy to decipher unless you pay attention. The main reason SOY is a smash is because the lyrics "I'm in love with th shape of you" are easily heard and relatable. A-YO should be the next single as it's fun and not you don't need to read much into it unless you want to. Had PI not been too weird off the bat we'd be in a different situation. We want radio to embrace her, since DJs are unfortunately very biased. BYE

Lazarus 425
It can be censored, obvi. Censoring can sound decent too. Think about how Ed Generin censored the '****' in 'Don't **** with my love'- Like a sort of breathy gasp type of thing. Copy and past that into where she says *touch* myself and you're good to go. And look, people don't look too hard at lyrics when a song is catchy. Think Side to Side. Literally about being ****ed so hard you can't walk, and nobody cared. Honestly. The people streaming hits right now aren't exactly crusty old conservative soccer moms. Aside from that, like- Funk me downtown, let's funk downtown- I'm not kidding, radio gives a song brownie points when it uses funk in the chorus- ugh
Lord Ryry 3,367
She should of saved the John Wayne video and actually put it out while promoting it.
