Pretty much my reaction to this election cycle and presidency (oh, and just life in general these days...it's been rough for many of us, I know)

I agree with reducing foreign aid.

Of course you do. It's everyone's favorite punching bag. But, like opposition to NASA (0.5% of the budget), it's a position that's not rationally based. Foreign aid is less than 1% of the budget.

Don't get me started on how even campaigns against Communism and Russia went overboard in the 50's :rip:

I think the American public is purposefully kept stupid.... :emma:

Interestingly, the government fired more people for being an expected homosexual rather than for being a Communist during that time FYI. Est. 10,000 people were fired from government positions in the 50s and 60s for being targeted as a homosexual.

Executive Order 10450

In 1953 President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed Executive Order 10450. EO10450 set security standards for federal employment and barred homosexuals from working in the federal government. The restrictions set in place were cause for hundreds of homosexuals to be exposed as gay and fired from the state department. The EO was also the cause for the firing of approximately 5,000 homosexuals from federal employment; this included private contractors and military personnel. Not only did the victims lose their jobs, but also they were forced out of the closet and thrust into the public eye as homosexuals.

The EO stayed on paper and in effect until 1995 when President Bill Clinton rescinded the order and put in place the "Don't ask, don't tell" policy for admittance of gays into the military.

Btw, I had no idea the the DADT policy was put into place as a pro-gay law... Obviously today it's stupid, but at the time it made sense.

This was called the "Lavender Scare" if you didn't know and was a lot worse than the Red Scares that happened.

America is such a laughing stock. I swear it's almost embarrassing to say you're American these days.

Imagine if we were as civilized and educated as some of the other Western countries.

This is what happens when a country continually thinks it's the best at everything without looking at other nations.

One of the Republican Candidates [Carly] kept praising America for stuff that "only happens in America" like climbing up Corporate latter starting at the bottom is just 1 of many examples she gave

I live in Canada and Ive lived in Portugal... all the stuff she said was unique to America really isnt :awkney:
