Saint Laurent 4,862
I hadn't seen this posted anywhere so... Parliament has backed the Brexit bill without the House of Lord's suggested amendments. Once the bill has been given royal assent, Theresa May can formally trigger Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty. This is expected to happen before the end of this month. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-39266992
Dominic 11,922
Of course they would, I can't even pretend to be surprised. The support the HoL received afterwards must have hit a nerve. The hardest thing in this world is to live in it

KingOfSpain 10,010
I'm sorry for the people who voted Remain but can't wait to see the Gibraltar border closed for good http://elpais.com/elpais/2017/03/02/inenglish/1488458573_126346.html http://gagadaily.com/forums/topic/227246-ceremony-gagas-videography-megarate/

In actual fact this proposition is quite absurd, the boarder will not be closed.

In actual fact this proposition is quite absurd, the boarder will not be closed. The border WILL be closed lol. Check out any press conference by Spanish government and the European commission. It's a fact. The people who rule Gibraltar are always claiming the UK property over the land and insulting Spanish people every single day while they all rest in their mansions in Sotogrande, La Línea de la Concepción, Algeciras, Marbella, Fuengirola and other towns near the coasts in Cádiz and Málaga. They're so hypocritical. It's a tax haven. Enterprises invest their money there and the counties next to the colony are so empoverished because of that. They keep on invading Spanish water even tho they don't have the right to own any maritime area around the grounds. Etc. It's a long issue. http://gagadaily.com/forums/topic/227246-ceremony-gagas-videography-megarate/
AM98GJ 3,086
Regardless of whether a lot of us don't what it to happen, the HoL is there to ensure governing is done properly and that's what they did. Here we go

Here we go Right you are, but the HoL failed to take into consideration a number of factors when suggesting these amendments. Most importantly the status of UK nationals residing in countries whom are members of the EU. It would be ridiculous to secure the position of EU nationals in the UK at the moment since there has been no formal acknowledgement that all EU member states will agree to allow UK nationals to remain in their countries. Moreover, it would have totally weakened the bargaining position of the UK Government. Whether it is morally just or not, these people are, unfortunately, bargaining chips and while we all wish that they are able to remain in the UK and continue with their lives here, we must also ensure that UK nationals are able to do the same. It makes most sense to wait and have that discussion between the UK Government and the EU as to ensure the rights of both groups of people.

Saint Laurent 4,862
7 minutes ago, LG said: how does severing your trade ties make your country great Nobody has or will sever any trade ties. The relationship between the UK and the EU is not one of reciprocity at the moment as there is both an monetary and trade deficit between both parties. Both countries need each other, but the UK needs the EU less than it needs the UK. Once the UK does officially leave the EU, we will become it's biggest customer (it's second being the USA), which is, as I'm sure you can understand, a relationship that the EU will not want to sever. Moreover, leaving the Customs Union will mean that we are able to make trade deals with countries that are not members of the EU and at this point countries have shown interest in these deals, most notably the USA. Therefore, not only is it likely that are trade relationship with the EU will remain sound, we will also have the opportunity to source trade deals elsewhere, thus leaving our trading relations in a much better place than it is in currently. bionic 50,111
TBF I do feel that the House of Lords backing down so easily makes the UK look weak ahead of these vital negotiations... Still, the amendments were right to be removed
