You can't possibly know whether or not a stranger is going to be okay with you touching them without their consent, so that's why it's never okay to go around doing that. I see a a lot of folks supporting the double standards yet cry about it the second it suits their agenda. That's not how equality works. As said many times, if the roles would be switched and it would be a 32 year old male touching a butt of an 18 year old female he would be eaten alive by the media. Katy is getting support because she's Katy Freaking Perry, she's a woman and (I assume) it was done in a joking manner (it is no secret Katy has a goofy personality). If a 32 year old male had done it in the same joking manner I higly doubt the media and the internet would believe him. We would see words like creep, pedo, rapist plastered all over the forums. We just overlook these kind of cases because "guys can't be sexual assault victims" and "guys like it when girls touch them" and "women aren't sexual predators" which is incorrect. Because society has these preconcieved notions less guys report sexual assaults or harrassement. Even women don't report as much as they should and we know for sure that the percentage of women getting assaulted is higher than men. My boyfriend has been groped at work a lot of times by women and each time it happens it's uncomfortable and it invades his personal space. Luckily he's a big boy and can stand up for himself. Still, it does happen to guys too and it's just as serious when it happens to women. There are certainly people who actually like being touched and it isn't a big deal to them, but at the end of the day it is a sensitive issue and people should absolutely not go up to straingers and touch them without their consent. But you know how it is often said that if someone feels harassed, it doesn't matter if you did not mean to harass them. You should apologize. Katy Perry probably had good reason to believe that Shawn Mendes wouldn't feel offended. It's not like she touched some random stranger on the street. We do not know what their relationship is, so I don't think you should just let Katy go with it only because Shawn happens to be fine with it.
