Gaga's vocals in The Fame era compared to the actual album

I like the old vocals, now it feels very forced and I feel that the voice will be damaged. I like the sweet and pop voice of The Fame era more.

Here's to our brand new start, I won't be waiting for nothing. I'll mend the broken parts. Pick up the pieces,

She will never have better vocals as she had in the fame monster era maybe btw era too

She tries to go too high with her voice eventhough she has a natural low pitch and adds some weird accent as if she has something stuck in her throat

Of course this is all just an opinion, I think she's been sounding great recently, 2014 was definitely a low because of that fake accent she tried to use during the artrave though.

One, five, ten lay a million on me

Her voice was so clean, pure, and high pitched. Paparazzi was not altered but she recorded it in 06/07. Her voice definitely suffered damage due to smoking, and she started getting progressively better album to album starting with Born This Way, then got better during ARTPOP, then waaaay better during C2C, now Joanne is where her vocals are now, and imo they're the best they've ever been!

I always believed they edited her octaves and her vocals (let's be real the whole album is autotune CENTRAL) to make them sound more feminine and approachable and pop sounding. At the time she had no control over that but she realised it matched the message too.

She said that her octaves got edited without her permission loss of times when she was being interviewed in 2014 I think? She also had live autotune a lot in the Fame era too you can hear it very clearly in her performances of Just Dance in late 2008/early 2009 and during her AMAs performance in 2009 of BR & Speechless

Guys this was because of the production and autotune used on her voice to make her voice sound more "pop-sounding" for radio. Interscope probably made it happen. Her live vocals always sounded more powerful imo than on the album.

Over the years she has used less autotune at times with albums which I have appreciated, especially on Joanne.

ARTPOP,  even though I love it, felt like had too much production on the vocals. I much prefer BTW's vocals over it.

I love her vocals really raw and I'm living for the huskiness in them on parts of Joanne :firega:

Not even close.

C2C and Joanne vocals and performances prove she's never sounded better.

Her voice was nowhere near as powerful as it is today, that's just a fact when you compare them to then.  So stay delusional I guess :sure:

Paparazzi is not pitched at all. I already posted few times video of her working with Rob Fusari on this, saying that "this is unproceeded version of the song" and she sounds exactly like on studio version. I'm hurrying at the moment but when I come back home I will send this in here. Her voice just got damaged between red and blue and the fame era. Probably due to drugs, smoking.

Edit. What are you all saying about her voice being edited. Do you even know what are you talking about? Where do you get this info from. :sharon:

Sugar, spice, and everything nice.

She did say they had more control of her voice in the TF/TFM eras, I don't think they pitched her that often, but they definitely edited her vocal tone because you can't hear any of her vibrato (the shakiness) that she definitely had.

There's also the fact that those albums had a lot more vocal layers in the acapella, and that makes them sound smoother too.

Another thing I wanna point out is that Hair might've been pitched somewhat, because the album version is F Major, but when she sings it live she sings it in E Major which is one semitone lower. Probably makes it easier to hit those notes in the bridge, but idk. Her actual voice definitely has a different tone to the edited (but still magical) versions on her first albums.

I often think about this! I'm glad someone else does too. I also wondered if her voice had been pitched up while recording The Fame. But it could also have been that her 'girly' voice was a vocal technique she decided to use in studio, but which she didn't use live or on tour because it was improper technique.

I was actually going to make a thread about this tonight but haven't: there's a couple of lines of vocals in Dancing In Circles that sound remarkably like her 'girly' vocals on The Fame! It struck me tonight when I was listening carefully to it in my car.

I was extra surprised because her voice now, even her talking voice, is much different than it was back then. Lower and more gritty, and less light, airy and girly. I didn't think she was capable of doing those original vocals anymore due to extensive touring, tonnes of smoking, and drug use etc. But I guess she can still pull that voice out when she wants to.

It's this bit here, the harmony layer of "tap down those boots while I beat around" etc, starting at 2:02 (listen with headphones to actually hear how TF she sounds. I can imagine Gaga with her blond bangs and fake tan singing just those lines)

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.
