He's such a sellout. I remember him first starting out and how people loved him because he was real and wrote songs that mattered. Now he just has the ego that he's the best and his music is about standard things. While its good to listen to criticism to improve your craft, you should have integrity for your art and make something that is significant to you.

I'm sorry, but this is so unnecessary for him to say. Like, he is super pretentious this era, and I didn't expect that from him... I guess he was friends with Taylor for too long now :giggle:

I saw this photo of him on Facebook when he's just starting out and in streets singing for people. I wonder where is this attitude coming from because hun, karma's a b*tch.

Some of them want to abuse you, some of them want be abused.

It depends on the context he intended as to whether I agree with him.

If he was talking about about not listening to other people's input about your work then I agree, as listening to comments and criticism about your work is healthy. Even if you disagree with them and ignore them, at least you are all the more certain that you are doing exactly what you think is right.

However, what I think he was trying to say is that he has a problem with artist who want creative control of their work rather than listening to what management etc say will be successful which I strongly disagree with. Obviously he cares more about commercial success than producing quality music. He really is letting himself down this era.

I wish I could defend him, but then I remember he's another boring male singer with another hit.

Also, his always "chill" personality makes me uncomfortable.

There's some truth on his statments tho, big artists should balance their artistry and fame (in case that person isnt tired or over with fame) Some artists tend to do just what they want to do and forget they have a public demanding something in particular. I think Gaga balanced herself with Joanne, when you hear the album you can clearly say she's going to another direction, but the pop core that raised her to the point she is now is still there. But ugh, if it wasnt because he's such an overrated **** I could understand him better. Sometimes he tries way too hard.

Some of what he said is true but you can tell by this response that he's actually obsessed with being number one, it's sad.

Sounds like a smart guy TBH. You can't surround yourself with yes people and you can't fight with everyone that says, "Hey, maybe you should rethink that. Here is why."

Well, that depends on the kind of artist that you want to be. If you want to be successful, then listen to your record label and try to buy into every trend that's out. If you want to follow your passion or your own conviction, then you should do what you feel like doing.

Everyone has that choice. Tbh, I'd rather not have as much success, but to have creative control. I'd prefer to quit the music business instead of becoming a sellout artist like Maroon 5. Or Ed.
