It doesn't matter when you release a single, if a song is a hit, it will. G.U.Y. was really a bad song + the chorus is weak + people get headaches when they hear it

Except your wrong :awkney:

No song following the DWUW mess+blackout was gonna do exceptional with the treatment G.U.Y. got. Had it actually been pushed to radio and promoted it would've at least been a Birthday-sized single

MR has the potential to sell a lot more. I need that Platinum Certification from pure sales; make it look good for the Grammys.:queenga:

We had Applause ok

And if she has the chance for Eurovision she could be great again

You never know

And you think Gaga could be great again with LG6 in Europe? If Joanne flops there, there will be no Chance for LG

The way radio and the music industry works in most of the world is that later singles will flop if the lead does because most monopolizing stations won't add it.  Radio stations will support each lead to see if it is successful, and If she pivots back to electropop (which I feel she will) she will regain support. PI was honestly one of the worst mistakes of her entire career.

Hate to open this can of worms but G.U.Y. could've smashed if released during the summer following DWUW with a video and Gypsy at the Grammys with a killer video. Stream a performances of it from the artRave at the BBMAs and perform it at The Voice finale with a killer video release and it would've at least been a good summer hit

because promo definitely made Judas not flop :poot:

Well, Judas (AKA the Bad Romance copy cat) was abandoned by radio for obvious reasons, if radio had played it would have been a Alejandro sized hit in the US

I think MR easily could've gotten close to 2M in pure sales if the discount remained permanently on tbh. Of course I realize why that can't happen for integrity purposes and what not, but 2M sales certainly looks a lot better than 1M on paper hihi

Americans can't understand a simple metaphor and it's even worse when religion is mixed with it :poot:  Judas was deemed to flop :diane:

Judas was a religious, deep-metaphor hit, do you think people we're gonna digest that easily in a time when the biggest hits were empowerment and party songs?

G.U.Y. was catchier and easier to digest than Judas on all levels. The intro was cut for radios so that's not a problem, Zedd was trendy then, and the chorus was simple yet catchy. All my GP friends love it and pick it with Gypsy and DWUW as their ARTPOP faves. Catchy, trendy, simple, all makings of a hit, not to mention had Gaga been riding off the momentum of three successful previous singles how easy it would have been to make it a success.

2x platinum is def doable and 1m pure is on lock. keeping it on discount forever is def a bad move

And no matter the lead Joanne was bound to be fairly local with its sound, but who cares-- Tours define global artists not the sound of one album, ie Beyoncé

Listening to Judas now, my Gay ass thinks it's Godly bop, but I can't believe it was a single and kinda succeeded (2xPlat in US)

That's the whole BTW album actually, except a few songs. But honestly, religion is so involved in this album, that's one of the reason why I don't listen to it very often.
