A more conservative Democrat is still better than any Republican.

I find this insanely childish, foolish, and selfish. Sorry Bernie fans.

The party is about diversity of ideas, we don't all have to be socialist. This isn't about "progress", this is about bullying and pressuring others into supporting socialist policies they don't believe in.

Bullying and pressuring others into supporting policies they don't believe in is EXACTLY why Trump won. Don't pull that against Bernie. We could've had a GOOD candidate but the establishment decided against it and everyone who disagrees was ordered to fall in line.

You can't have a Democratic candidate that failed to motivate the minority vote. He waited until the last moment, signed onto a party that wasn't his party and that he didn't support and failed to persuade the minority vote. That's why he lost.

The voters decided what they wanted and it wasn't Bernie.

My response is i wouldn't trust them either, now they've groveling cus all the same polls that said she would beat him also said he would beat trump... them even considering taking out such a heavy contender is a bit ridiculous. The media had a bias against him the entire time which also has been proven with hillary getting debate questions ahead of time via Brazile (who now I think is affiliated with the DNC? lmao)

Lol yes. The "media" and Dona Brazile giving one (singular) question to Hillary definitely swayed 4 million more Americans to vote for Clinton instead of dem. socialist Bernie. Yup. Sounds legit.

Just like Trumpsters, Bernie Bros will literally blame anyone they have to in order to shift the blame off their man and onto someone else.

How about the reality that Bernie lost because millions more Americans want to Democratic Party to be center-left and thus elected Clinton? Hmm

Lol.... the delusion...

Bernie didn't lose because the establishment didn't like him. He lost because 4 million more Americans voted for Hillary Clinton that Bernie Sanders. The "establishment" didn't do anything.

You really think one debate question hinted at to the Clinton camp swayed 4 million Americans? Do you really think behind the scenes emails that never actually came to fruition did it? Or the super delegates?

No. Bernie Sanders lost because 4 million more Democrats liked Clinton more than him. That's democracy. Don't be a sore loser like Bernie.

RIGHT NOW Bernie is bullying dems to swing to the extreme left wing, aka the same platform that led him to lose his primary run in a MASSIVE democratic defeat.

He never won the votes of black or Latino Americans, nor did he persuade women to vote for him. HE lost the primary because HE didn't appeal to those people, not because Dona Brazile coyly hinted to Clinton advisory one stupid question.

I know first hand no one was "ordered to fall in line". I know plenty of Bernie supporters in the DNC and none of them were ever silenced in anyway that Clinton supporters weren't.

The DNC has a charter to not get involved in primaries for a reason, and that is to not pit dems against each other. What Bernie is doing here is the EXACT opposite. He is literally trying to get Dems to fight it out and it is an absolute disgrace.

Donald Trump and Republicans everywhere will win AGAIN because Bernie is a sore loser and will trash Democrats yet f*ckimg again.

Remember when he said Hillary wasn't fit to be president? That's not how Democrats treat each other. We are a team. **** like that is why Trump is president.

Bernie can shove it, he's just as big as an ideologue as Trump. We do not need radicals in this country. Such a disgrace.

This thread exemplifies why we aren't gonna win anything in 2018 or 2020 if people stay with this mentality.

Meanwhile Republicans will fall in line and vote for a fascist in 2020 as we argue about what democratic socialism is or isn't :smh:

Progressives are becoming embarrassing and too idealistic and this is not a good strategy.

There is nothing in here to suggest Bernie won't help Democrats, he just knows that his voting base is highly progressive and want to vote for progressive candidates - they didn't sign up to get a barrage of emails from a democratic party asking for votes for a corporatist, establishment candidates.

Nothing wrong with him supporting progressive candidates - the establishment candidates already have the advantages stacked their way.

There is a deep divide in the Democratic party, that's very obvious but the answer isn't going to be:

"Can the engaged progressives who give a f*ck about money in politics, wall street corruption and progressive social agendas just stay quiet and fall in line???"

These voters already feel disenfranchised and an approach like that isn't going to help. The progressives in the party are going to continue to fight to make the party more progressive, learn to live with it because a significant chunk of democrat voters and supporters are that progressive and it's candidates like Bernie that are bringing a lot of disenfranchised progressives into the Democratic fold.

People are tired of the issues they deeply care about being ignored because they have to 'tow the line' and vote party lines to prevent a Republican. The more you try to suppress that the more rage they are going to feel. They don't want to spend their lives voting against a candidate rather than for what they believe in.

Obviously there is going to be opposition to this because it hurts the status quo - but what some people seem to be missing is that progressives are not satisfied with the status quo.

There is never going to be a good time, in moderate's eyes, to push for a progressive agenda and work to transform the democratic party. It's always going to be a little messy and it's always going to be difficult and it will always be the same excuse "But Republicans!!!!". It's never going to be a good time to challenge the status quo.

Essentially what the moderate is offering the progressive is an eternity of voting against their interests and an eternity of propping up a moderate agenda - that doesn't seem super appealing to progressives

If moderates want a united party start arguing on policy and on ideas - forget this BS about voting party lines and toeing the line because it's not at all convincing or appealing to the progressive.

If you want to win the battle start having arguments based on ideology. Who is ideologically correct? Lets figure that out. Moderates - Try convincing people that establishment candidates are correct policy wise and work towards their interests. Progressives - Try convincing people that progressive candidates are correct policy wise and work towards their interests.

The progressive wing of the Democratic party is here - whether moderates like it or not - and they are going to continue to fight for their interests within the Democratic party. You are not going to be able to stop it by crying that they shouldn't mess with the status quo - because that's exactly what their aim is.

God I hate him so much

Why would you not want dems to win across the board, regardless of whether or not they subrcribe to your radical socialist views.

Ugh.

UMMMMMMM???? This is what's wrong with American politics: blindly supporting someone for their party and not for their personal beliefs. Chose people, not parties.

hello George Washington :gaysia:  you're right **** factions. i wish americans had the balls to vote with principles rather than lesser of two evils but that would require taking a risk and nobody wants to do that other than the select principled few. i love them but they wont win without a party.

voting for parties is the only way which is why bernie needs to begin to build the progressive party. make that percentage (is it 12 or 15 or something?) and get into debates. the only thing i ever want to see is more choices and even though i would most likely not vote for a progressive unless its bernie, i very much like the idea of a third party. if that means the dems lose a chunk of their support then the people have spoken, nature has selected and you are now extinct :gaycat: . its a conservative country :diane:.

or do the smart thing and stop characterizing people with principles that they stick to as stubborn dolts. you need to get on their good side :stalkga:dont push them away even further.. thats how you lose elections

I disapprove of what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it.

Bernie learned his lesson when he gave in to the Democratic establishment last time, I hope him and Elizabeth Warren really make some noise in the coming years.

Although I support his sentiment I don't think this is the best thing to do.

A more conservative Democrat will have to go against Trump to win back the low income, less educated folks in the desperate areas where jobs are needed.

This is not going to happen with a more liberal Democrat.

If you would have asked me this before November 8 I would have told you something different. But this is the reality.

Bernie should give them the email list. We need all the help we can get to win against Trump in 2020.

Higher voter turnout and Bernie would crush Trump. Bernie just needs the Obama coalition. Where he failed miserably against Hillary was with minorities (specifically Southern blacks).

Bernie, or any other nominee, would need to appeal to all ages and heavily to minorities. Also, contrary to the stereotype of a rising liberal majority delivering reelection victory, 57.3% of President Obama’s voters were actually moderate or conservative. A nominee would need to appeal to moderates and even conservatives, to regain the Obama coalition.

I can only find one source that says this, and it's from a moderate think tank called "Third Way", which I assume is a proponent of middle-path politics. Not saying it's false, I'd just be weary of single-source facts.

I agree, but the same must also be said of Trump. His core base cannot win another election on its own, and I have a feeling that the people the tipped this election in his favor are not going to vote for him a second time around. It's crucial that the Democrats pick the right candidate, who, in my opinion, is the Democratic Trump equivalent. I genuinely believe Sanders is Trump's counterpart on the left (with obvious differences being Trump is a moron and Sanders has class).

I don't think it's unreasonable to think that the far left can win a Trump-esque election in the way that the far right has. It's all about turnout, and the votes are definitely there (a la the popular vote).

The final election Gallup Poll, from October 27 to November 2, indicated 10% of Republicans supported Obama. Gallup also indicated his support among self-described conservatives. The Economist cited a poll in late October 2008 that indicated Obama was "winning 22% of self-described conservatives, a higher proportion than any Democratic nominee since 1980.

Democrats don't show up to vote, no matter what. They don't fall in line. If a candidate has trouble with women, Latinos and Black voters...they better turn it around and do something to appeal to those groups...or they simply will stay home. Same with moderates and conservatives that will crossover for the right candidate. If you are too far left, they won't show up just because you have a D by your name.

Also, from one extreme to the other may very well not appeal to those who are moderates and conservative Democrats. They may nominate a more moderate person to run in the general against Trump.

Maybe they will even be running against Pence, or Ryan. Who knows? A lot can happen in four years. We don't have to worry about it for at least a couple of years, though. :)
