La La Land deserved best director and that's it. I still can't believe Emma Stone won best actrees for that basic ass performance. Natalie Portman and Isabelle Huppert gave really impressive performances and even Meryl Streep did better than her this year.

I just watched Moonlight because it won, I have to say it wasn't Best Picture worthy. It was very slow, I was literally waiting for something to happen in the third chapter. It was nothing compared to Brokeback Mountain.

The final award is usually given by a Hollywood legend, most of the times, as it's an honor so they chose older actors/directors.... not each and every time, but almost always

so happy for Moonlight for snatching Best Picture  very well deserved (it deserved more awards tbh)

kinda pissed that La La Land won SO MANY awards and VERY pissed that Arrival was practically ignored in almost every category and that Hidden Figures didn't win a single award

I read similar complaints about ‘Carol’ being slow and anticlimactic. It wasn’t the textbook lesbian romance so the film must be overrated, right? ‘Moonlight’ doesn’t have a formulaic beginning, middle, & end like ‘Brokeback Mountain’ so it’s not worthy! That’s what you’re implying. You must learn that our relationships do not exist as a checklist for one’s headcannon. You can’t mold memories, experiences, thoughts, & feelings. The appeal of ‘Moonlight’ lies in the storytelling of a few arcs at once: black masculinity, gayness, substance abuse, poverty. The undeniable artistry of Tarell & Barry’s work is the ability to tie all of these themes together cohesively; not to mention beautifully and fascinatingly. If you don’t understand the appeal of this piece of cinema then you probably never will. Such is life. But, honestly, I genuinely pity you because it’s a film that shakes you to your core. I will never be the same after watching it. I’m one of many. It’s not us: it’s you.

It's funny that you think that because 'La La Land' is the actual Oscarbait. It's about two white hets falling in love with some musical numbers in the middle. A film about black, gay youth is far from appealing to an overwhelmingly straight & white voting committee. If that were factual, more films of this variety would win.
