A banner reading "Refugees welcome" was put up illegally on the base of the Statue of Liberty Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

The banner, 3 feet by 20 feet, was unfurled atop the pedestal around 12:50 p.m., according to National Park Service police. It was affixed to the outside of the public observation deck at the base of the statue by nylon rope.

When alerted to the presence of the banner, park rangers immediately made their way to the location to assess how to get it down. They were able to remove it without damaging the monument.

That would be ideal if the big powers were to stop causing wars. :madge:

That's what we try to do but then conservatives complain we're not putting America first.

This requires both countries willing to put forth the effort, which isn't happening.

May I also remind you, America was built upon refugees escaping religious prosecution.

It was also built upon the corpses of disease riddled Native Americans, but that a conversation for a later date.

It can be argued that in some cases, America's interference causes the problem.

We should be opening and accepting of people; we need to show compassion and love.

tbh, they complainin about refugees coming in because of them trying to commit terrorist attacks (0 refugees that trump banned have made attacks here in america) when theres actual terrorist attacks made by the same people who complain. When they do conservatives try to jump into diff subjects like saying white people are never the dangerous ones and bring up a chart saying black people are more dangerous.they also shut down immigrants for taking jobs that they dont want to do.They complain, try to cover their asses when something comes for them and blame it on something stupid ,and still never fixes the problem

Spoiler

excuse my essay,i have to do papers on this **** every week so im used to ranting like this

I'm not saying that we shouldn't allow refugees, the point i was trying to make was that allowing refugees is only a temporary fix

If you are referring to the Puritans, they were a separatist group of Christian extremists who were as interested in fleeing religious persecution against themselves back in England as they were interested in enacting religious persecution against others in America. If you are referring to the earlier French or Spanish religious zealots who landed in America, they too were as interested in fleeing religious persecution as they were in using it against others. It's a little naive to say that America was built upon refugees escaping religious persecution. In reality our country was founded by religious extremists who brought their bloody religious infighting and bigotry to American soil.
