Exposing KP4 (Title/Concept/Inspiration)

Ok guys so Just finished re-watching the music video of "Chained To The Rhythm"

Katy said there are many easter eggs in the music video

I think the album is gonna be called

OBLIVIA

(play on words with Oblivion)

as that term has been somewhat emphasized in the video, tbh i think it IS what the video is all about.

I think Katy's approach to this album, "how can I win both sides over", create a commercially successful album but also make it critically acclaimed (if you don't believe Katy cares about success, then go back to sleep).

The video shares these statements "The greatest ride in the universe" , "The Great American Dream Drop". It's obvious she's going for a satire. This album will be one that explores a Utopia but I think with more tracks from the album we will see how this Utopia is just a sugar coated Dystopia. I think the song "Chained To..." is a solid indication.

It's clear to me that her inspiration behind KP4 is how the cyber social age is dividing us but also tricking us that we are connected (the people in katy's video are all in the same amusement park yet they seem so distracted (0:22). Katy in the video is initially as naive as the other attendants but around (2:44) she starts questioning the modern way of life, those around her seem to have lost their sense of reasoning. She takes off the 3D glasses (metaphor for propaganda) , listens to Skip Marley (who's actually making great points in his verse). Surprisingly enough,  it looks like only Katy is aware of Skip, while the others are still in a brainwashed like state, she's the only one who stands up and actually goes up to him but when she is about to touch him, everyone around her is up and it's like she's sucked back into this bubble of awe (more like misery). However, she is now aware and is shouting the lyric "wasted zombie" as if it is directed towards the people around her.

For those who watch Black Mirror (S3EP1 Specifically), note the reference at  (1:35)

When the others run on the hamster wheel they fall but when katy does she does not. She has a sense of will the others don't seem to show. In the beginning she seemed ecstatic (0:05) with her arrival to Oblivia but by the end sheer horror is clearly on her face (3:55). She figured out the dystopian nature of this so called Utopia and is willing to expose Oblivia. I believe the whole video introduced us to this heroine character (her name is Rose, 1:35, thanks @takemetovenusfor pointing that out) who I believe will be a big part of this album. This truly is her ARTPOP.

"WE THINK WERE FREE'

Oblivion: the state of being unaware or unconscious of what is happening around one.

I'll leave you with that

EDIT: any extra things spotted out , I will place here

-The Fire Water (2:13 / Oxymoron for how we think we are connected when we're actually not / Fire and Water cannot co-exist)

-2:40 could be seen as a "Brave New World" reference, I think @TheFame Monster was pointing that out.

-1:31 the wait time displaying 1984 could be a reference to "1984" (perhaps the most popular dystopian novel of all time// I also like to add that during the early stages of KP4 it was rumored that Katy registered a track under the name 1984) thanks @Dominic Marc for pointing it out.

I don't think it will be that deep.

KP4 will be a bubblegum pop album (as CTTR indicates), but Katy, like many other celebrities, are going to capitalize on the disdain towards Trump and the government.

I never mentioned what I think it will sound like

Yea i do believe it will be basic pop sonically

but the context of CTTR is already deep plus I am not reaching, listen to her interview, she is practically begging us to come up these conclusions.

Well, I didn't mean just in sound. I meant a bubblegum pop album in that it will be easy for listeners to digest. I think there might be only one or two songs that MAYBE dig deeper than CTTR, but overall it will be a fun album for the kids and teens.

The context of CTTR is technically deep, but at the end of the day it's really really vague and meant to appeal to all listeners. Not to bring Gaga into this, but with Born This Way she wasn't afraid to actually sing about gays, lesbians, different races, etc. I consider myself very socially aware and it still took me a while to grasp the lyrics of CTTR. People kept calling it "purposeful pop" but it took me a while to even hear the message. She uses too friendly of lyrics to vaguely get the message across.

And honestly, that's how the entire era will be I'm sure. The Grammys performance was just odd honestly. Didn't make too much sense and the "we the people" imagery was so try-hard. And I'm sure the second single will have absolutely no political message.

I'm not a KP hater. I actually LOVED her at the start of her career. But I really dislike how in her personal life she is very outspoken about her beliefs but she is STILL playing it safe in her music. But that's just my opinion.

i mean, she managed to do a deep song (i'm not gonna lie, the song has an important message) in a very basic Katy Perry song style, so why not.

You may or may not be right

we'll just have to wait and see how things play out

Teenage Dream started off as a bubblegum pop album with no purposeful meaning but with Wide Awake and its music video, we saw how she connected the dots. While the album was vague, it was clear to me by the end that it was truly just a dream, the album digs into Katy's perception of her own life, the good and the bad (again watch the Wide Awake MV).

If she really goes deep and stops trying to keep her audience with childish stuff this may be her best era ever. 'Chained To The Rhythm' is weaker than her previous leads but the concept is really interesting.

I think the idea of Katy personifying Oblivia as a character would be interesting too.

Ya know she might actually be playing a sort of character for the album possibly, I did notice during the "Love Me" ride near the end, they display her name as "Rose" instead of Katy

Illuminati

Didn't she confirm during the grammys that Chained to the rhythm is not even an album lead and that it's basically gonna end up like Rise
