I wonder what surprise she has in store for them like se said.

I didn't exactly compare the tours tho. Just noted that, although we understand what happened, to most people, it would seem more like an act of fear than one of rational discernment and her message will now appear weaker and fake in the eyes of the general public.

Gaga gained out of this. Indonesia was the one that lost, no one will ever want to go to that flop-ass country now.

I feel sorry for the Jakarta fans. Hopefully Gaga can put something together to make it up for them until she comes back one day.

You know what, I think it took A LOT of balls on Gaga's part to cancel this - it's obvious this has been an incredibly hard decision for her, hence the emotional tweets. It was clear she wanted to perform at any cost or even go on stage alone if necessary as she mentioned before. She did the hardest thing - despite her huge amount of determination, she was empathetic, acute and rational enough to realize that she had to face the truth, reality.

What Madonna's team did back then wasn't necessarily "having balls" just as Gaga did not "chicken out" re: Indonesia. These two situations are incomparable (Madonna's tour was pre-9/11 hence the mentality was very, very different). I can't see anything valuable coming out of a comparison...

I think that ultimately it is Gaga who came out as the stronger one in this Jakarta mess. Why? Because she pushed her emotions and determination aside and looked at the facts: the FPI had a history of violence, the local and national police showed nothing but complete apathy for weeks, ergo she could be putting every single person attending the show in danger. She had been made a target but everyone else would be at risk too. She had the choice to go or not go and if she did choose to perform there and people were injured or killed, she'd never recover. Because she had had that choice, no matter how unfair it is that she had to make it. She went against her own wishes so that she would not be the one inviting danger and riots. She's a pacifist at heart, and she knew that going there would have been perceived as a taunt almost, so she made the decision to cancel. THAT is, to me, having balls.

The fact that she had to cancel everything herself because of huge safety issues only reflects badly on the police forces involved and on the Indonesian government. Human rights watchgroups are already commenting that this could turn out to be really bad for Indonesia's image worldwide, economically as well as politically.

Gaga fought against this until the end so let's not act as if she heard about a possible threat and ran for the hills with her tail between her legs.

And as far as the Blond Ambition tour goes, the controversy for it was similar to the BTWB but the danger was never this severe. She did have to cancel a date in Italy after the Pope called for a boycott and there was that famous incident in Toronto regarding censorship (that turned out to be nothing). Her Confessions tour sparked religious protests, but there wasn't a statement from an organization threatening to do anything like infiltrate her concert, set fire to her stage, and kill her - only religious groups calling for protests and boycotts.

It also should be noted that other than Japan, Madonna has largely steered clear from these Asian countries that Gaga has decided to tackle head-on. It's obvious that Gaga does have the balls, but she also has a brain.

 To both of these posts. I completely agree.

I honestly feel that this may have been the hardest decision of her life. For once, many lives were actually weighing on her decision. These people were not bluffing. If she went to Jakarta they would make an attempt on her life. I work for a hotel company that owns probably some of the nicest hotels in Jakarta (the ones she would stay at) and terrorists have managed to pass security, bomb our hotels and murder innocent people. There is no doubt in my mind that no water what level of security they provided she would not be safe 1 moment in that city. I don't know why they even scheduled a date in such a dangerous city. Bali would have made much more sense and I bet they would have had much fewer problems had that been the original choice, but at this point it is too late to switch and guarantee safety. I hope these terrorists realize the damage they have done to their country's reputation. No major music star will want to go there for a very long time and I bet Gaga will never step foot in the country.

This definitely opened up my eyes even more to these terrorist groups. That's insane.

I agree that no other mainstream artist is going to want to tour this country now once they hear about this story with Gaga.

:fail: You don't have to have low self-esteem to appreciate it, I don't. You obviously don't get it so nevermind.

It's not about that, no. I do get her message it's just that I don't care if an artist have a message or not as much as I care for the music. Like whether my favorite artist was a racist, homophobe, criminal lol that's his/her choice, I'm there for the music and only the music.

but the threat was severe

the extremists said they purchased 150 tickets and that they would stop at nothing to force gaga off the stage even if it meant hurting her

and im sure people would understand that she cancelled the concert for safety reasons - would you rather have her get hurt or cancel the concert

if gaga didnt cancel the concert and got hurt - it would look even worse

this wasnt a normal threat - they were blatant in what they were planning to do and gaga and her team thought long and hard about the decision

I respect her decision. The only thing that worries me is that a lot of other groups are probably going to start huge protests since this one was successful in getting her to cancel the show.

The more I think about this, the more likely that I think Indonesia just didn't want to take the risk, even with all those officers at the show. There's still no guarantee of complete safety. If Gaga got killed at that concert, the fans, America and the world would NEVER let Indonesia forget this. Their police force would be criticised for not making things completely safe, the government would be criticised for not throwing the FPI in jail as soon as they made these threats and the entire country would have this incident hanging over them forever more. "Indonesia - the country where Lady Gaga, the biggest pop star in the world at the time, was murdered." They likely saw the long term consequences of letting this go ahead and decided that the fans may be angry now, but not as angry as they would be if their idol was killed. Considering all this, can you blame them for cancelling it?

I respect her decision. The only thing that worries me is that a lot of other groups are probably going to start huge protests since this one was successful in getting her to cancel the show.

My thoughts exactly. When we thought it was still going to go ahead, I hoped that this would be an end to the protests because if a Muslim nation like Indonesia didn't give in to pressure from terrorists and allowed a raunchy pop star to hold a show, the chances of protests from liberal nations getting anywhere would be slim. And it might make would-be protesters think it's pointless protesting in the future if someone as strict as Indonesia wouldn't budge. But now this cancellation is going to have the opposite effect. Now protests are going to be more extensive, everywhere. What is scary is that they might threaten to kill Gaga and promise riots, just like the FPI did, in the hope that their country will be too afraid of the consequences and get her to cancel.

Well, I'll say this to anyone thinking of protesting against Gaga elsewhere:

Gaga has been through more than enough.Certain protesters threatened to kill her. She's had threats on her life. Mind your own damn business and get your priorities straight.

This has got to be breaking Gaga's heart the fact that she has had to cancel on monsters.

I just find it strange that all these religious groups are sitting around thinking of ways to interfere with other people's lives instead of going out and helping people in need, or trying to make a positive difference in someone's life. When exactly did religion start giving people a right to violence or oppression? Oh, right... people designed it that way.

I just really hope those Westboro skanks show up at my concert when it rolls around here in the U.S... Giving some hypocrites the big :****this: should make the day fly by in the Monster Pit line. :nasty:

May I join you with that? I wouldn't mind to give them a piece of my mind. :grr: I didn't have GA last time so I got there later and didn't see them standing around like I heard they were during the day from Gaga's tweets and people that were there. I hope with this incident they don't get more violent with their threats as well. At least the police/security here were involved enough and made them stand and protest away from the actual venue as opposed to what was happening in Indonesia.

Yes you may girl! XD We'll give 'em hell all day! I'm seriously considering getting some of these to wear too:

If I'm gonna be accused of being a satanic Gaga worshiper then I might as well dress the part.
