I don't care about it. I was just explaining to someone that a discounted track is on the the front page of iTunes. Everyone here gets so butthurt when they hear how little money is made when a track is discounted. I give any artist that has their track on discount for a long time the same comments. And if you go back to when Demi had Confident on discount you'll see that most people on here all feel the same way about tracks that are discounted. All the sudden everyone is OK with discounts.

I don't care about discounts. In-fact, I feel 69 cent songs will soon be the new thing as music sales keep on decreasing.

Plus, who cares if it's discounted? The artist offers it at a more affordable price for fans and others to purchase and enjoy. I don't see anything wrong with discounted music.

Right I feel like all digital music prices should be lowered because sooner or later no one will be buying music and everyone will just be paying monthly fees for streaming services

69¢ isn't profitable. Sales won't increase enough for it to be "the new thing" it's not like songs discounted at 69¢ are going diamond. They are hardly going  platinum.

$1.29 songs are profitable anymore either. If a song sells 1000 copies at $1.29, that's $1290.00 sales; however, if a discounted song at $0.69 sells double that (because cheaper - people like cheap), that comes to about $1380.00

Music sales in general aren't as profitable as they used to be. However, the discounted rate should be the future of iTunes, and businesses should realize a song isn't going to sell as well at $1.29, when someone can pay 5 bucks a month to stream unlimited music.

You just said that the only reason mr sold that many copies was because it was discounted and now your saying 69 cents songs aren't profitable? Im pretty sure if MR was never discounted it would of made less money then if it was never discounted so how is that not profitable

Streaming isn't very profitable either huh. A song that I'm not going to say the name, in the top 10 of Spotify USA is making the equivalent to 5k (for Billboard) itunes copies of this song each day.
To do that that song needed a radio payola, and a lot of promo on Spotify. This is a great investment, that streaming is not covering.

The music biz still needs sales to be profitable, and a song on wich you're not investing money still if it's discounted could be more profitable, than a song that you need to invest money to keep highly streamed. Interscope is fine with MR even discounted.

To be highly profitable you need good streaming AND good sales without much investment.

You are assuming that a 69¢ discounted price will lead to an increase of sales of 200%. The discounted price might sway a percentage of the GP to buy the song but that percentage isn't going to be 200%. If it was then MR would probably be platinum by now.  69¢ will convince the people on the fence about buying the song to buy it. The same people who were going to buy it regardless of price will buy it and the people who don't like the song and weren't going to buy the song won't buy it or download it even if it were free. The percentage increase of likely buyers that will buy the song at 69¢ is not going to be 200% that's just not likely. Also alot of the increase in sales for a discounted song is because of the front page exposure of iTunes under the discounted song section. If all song were at 69¢ there would not be that front page exposure. Anyways I'm done talking about discounts.

Some artists get top 10s because people actually buy their song and some get a top 10 because their label basically buys Hot 100 points with the max radio and Spotify payola. If I was an artist, I'd prefer the first option. :reductive:

Kats really need to stop. No one has forgotten the Applause thread. Sure, it's easy for you to #StopTheDramaStartTheMusic now, but where was that weeks ago, for Gaga, for Britney? Nope, there will be no reduction in lashings or mercy. We will continue to rip every shred of hair on your heads until all that's left is a bald, shiny disco ball stamped 99K. And just when you think "I'm safe." and that the nightmare is over and that you can finally rest from the claws of the Monsters, we will re-scalp you again as the echo of Gaga's 'John Wayne' plays in your mind on loop.

Omg atrl members ..
