I've always wondered this, and if someone could shed some light on this frustrating topic, that would be nice. It should've won Song and Record of the Year.... Let alone choosing the winners out of their list of nominees, they fail at nominating a lot of talented artists. It really is a popularity contest and so many deserving underground artists (I'm thinking of the rap/hip-hop community in particular) never get a nomination let alone a win.
