StrawberryBlond 14,881
I was just thinking how whenever a very famous celebrity gets pregnant, they go overboard with announcements and photo shoots. They love to do those bare bump shoots on magazine covers where they're naked and covering themselves with their hands. The most obvious recent candidate is Beyonce, who has done a pregnancy shoot unlike anything ever seen before: endless shots of her swimming underwater, lounging while being offered a flower, posing on top of a car overflowing with flowers and more. All the while looking glamorous and making references to famous artworks. Many people praised her but some also called the shoot ridiculous and OTT, acting like she was the first woman to give birth and how all the photos had no actual relation to pregnancy. Here's a great article about it: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-4186552/Is-vulgar-celeb-bump-brag.html I really agree with the article. I don't like it when celebrities make a big show of their bumps. It think it's a PR experience for them and has nothing to do with the baby. I also think the naked shoots are inappropriate and pointless as there is no need to be completely naked when giving birth. Lastly, I think it rubs their joy in the face of any woman who is infertile or can't give birth naturally or is having difficulty conceiving or she thought babies were on the cards until her man left her or her biological clock is ticking but she hasn't met the right man to have a baby with. Seeing celebrities be so smug and virtuous about their pregnancy can be really infuriating for normal women. What I really don't understand either is how overjoyed the fans of some of these women act, even though the baby has no bearing on them. If anything, it'll mean this celebrity isn't going to be putting new work out there anytime soon. Instead of just saying congratulations and leaving it at that, fans are desperate for updates as if they were family. I believe that pregnancy is a personal, private thing, not an experience for public consumption. But celebrity culture now has turned pregnancy into a spectator sport. There once was a time where a celebrity having a baby meant they were now old, uncool, boring. Now it's the in thing and just raises your popularity. And the more you publicise the pregnancy, the more popular you'll be. I think it's all very strange. I really don't care who's pregnant and who isn't and don't know why I should. I feel like Cady in Mean Girls when her mum says "This is the fertility vase of the Ndebele tribe - does that mean anything to you?" "...No." "Who are you?!" So, what do you think? Do celebrities take the pregnancy experience too far?
androiduser 7,438
Celebrities use any opportunity to get press and media attention, and pregnancy is one of the best press opportunities.... That and over dramatizing about health issues

androiduser 7,438
Oh, and I also don't even think any of them carry the babies for 9 months... They are filled up with hormone shots, vitamins etc and give birth before their body changes too much

This is a very good point and it's wonderful that women are now free and empowered to achieve success post-children just like men have been for centuries There's nothing harder for people to do than admit they were fooled. Bear 7,515
I agree with you, I wouldn't cash in on my pregnancy like that if I was them. It's the same concept as bringing kids to red carpets events etc I wouldn't want my kids one day looking back on the photos thinking I cared more about my career than giving them the freedom to choose to live a normal life away from the public eye, or that they were an object used for self gain. Just my personal opinion though.
Whispering 18,865
People are obsessed with their pregnancies, whether they are celebrities or not. All of this is pretty normal...I don't worry about it. If I don't care for it, I would simply ignore it!

That's such a bad thing to say, they should be free to share the joy that a pregnancy brings. Bette Davis 12,742
I have to say, most of the celebrity pregnancy photoshoots are so cringe-worthy Cold as ice cream, but still as sweet.
Ooolong 4,440
The photoshoots are more often than not cringey, but there's nothing wrong with 'em. If you're a celebrity and you can afford to go all out, why not? Most of the suburban moms in my town went far and above a photoshoot. Especially if you're famous, like, I'd personally rather have a more exciting announcement then hiding for months or having them find out because a paparazzi took pictures of me in sweatpants with my belly bigger than Jupiter. Pregnancy is an exciting thing. The Unbannable Chanteuse

From the moment I saw those 2 pink lines, I had to tell everyone in the whole ****ing world lol. My now ex gf and I were so excited. Lol we got a lot of strange looks since we're lesbians and apparently the thought of using a sperm donor didn't even cross people's minds. I have a scrapbook of all of my ultrasounds that hangs on my daughter's wall. I did the belly casts, photo shoots, etc. idk what it is but when ur pregnant, you feel like the only one on planet earth that is. I love you monsters. I'd be unfixably broken without you
