Halftime Analysis - Gaga is Bowie's Black Star

I just realized one almost scary thing.

Gaga whole SB performance is very deep/dark when you think about it. I am not sure how many of you realized but she was representing a spider during the performance. Crawling down from the roof and also million reasons part where crowd forms a big spider where piano represents the belly (throwback to Cravette film "-Where is it Candy? - In his belly of course." ) and her capturing all the dancers during the Bad Romance (their costumes looked web like) She was also very Ziggy Stardust esque (especially during the Just Dance part). And remember spider on her face during the Bowie tribute (direct reference to 'spiders from mars').

Spoiler

I have a feeling the whole intel video hinted this 'future' performance rather than Grammy tribute. Grammy tribute is just a "seed" she mentioned.

Also notice the star reference. More like a, next in line BLACK STAR.

In his song and a disturbing video, David says:

"Something happened on the day he died
Spirit rose a metre then stepped aside
Somebody else took his place, and bravely cried
'I’m a blackstar, I’m a star's star, I’m a blackstar' "

Also, compare her SB stage with Black Star cover:

And here comes the thing that really disturbs me. A video from 2009 (i believe)

Spoiler

Notice the super bowl reference and a star 1:23

It seems like everything was planned way way back.

The performance also revisits her Fame Factory theme. And I believe it's one of the crucial moments when it comes to analysing her career.

Spoiler

I bought a Lady Gaga, but she sold me a fake
All my money looks great.
I want the real Gaga
Can't fake it, gotta make it
The real Gaga
I want the Poker Face. Won't fake it, gotta make
Want the real Gaga

You see the real Gaga comes complete
with 5 number 1 singles
And the best part is, she has her own disco stick.
And she has no soul.
I'll take it.

...

[Dancers]
What's going on?
[Elijah Kelly]
Everyone is going goo goo for Gaga!
[Lady Gaga]
Stop! No!
[Elijah Kelly]
Her mind controlling pop music is ruining my business
[Lady Gaga]
No!
[Elijah Kelly]
Take her away. She's a monster
she's a monster, she's a monster
She's turnin' on you to the monster

I'm really not sure what they are trying to tell us but we are caught in her/their web. It's almost like a Steven Klein's FAME film. Where she sucks the fame (black liquid) out of her fans just to kill them afterwards by shooting herself in the mirror.

Few more references I find interesting and somehow connected:

Spoiler

The beginning: Stardate: 2008/9. Lady Gaga has been sent to Earth to infiltrate human culture one sequin at a time. Activate camera probe. Initiate Transmission Gagavision

Spoiler

spider reference?

And I'm sorry if it's a mess of a post. I just had to write down a few thoughts. But please think about it and discuss.

I know you are all joking but think about it. Not sure if satanic but some kind of a ritual for sure.

I think it's more or less that she just looked into her references I think the stars were meant to represent her desire to be a star as a kid. The outfit she was wearing was a more modernised version of her 2010 GRAMMYs one when she did Poker Face, She looked like a superhero because that's how her young fans saw her when she first came out and what not- Born This Way referenced the BTWB with the dancers outfits and the feeling of togetherness, the Telephone segment was more about her fan iconography with Telephone, the disco stick and her being carried and struggling was in-reference to her struggle with fame and also perhaps referencing her BTWB Judas performance. Million Reasons was about her fans being connected and her wanting unity in the world. Bad Romance was a combination of Superbowl references and The Monster Ball performance reference. Her stage was also constructed to look like a surrealist nightclub where she got her start hence the stage being a giant dancefloor.

I mean if you look it that way, Bowie is just singing in the attic with a bunch of dudes in a wheat field.

I know what you're saying and you're right, she absolutely referenced her career, but I believe there is more to it.

the message of the show was unity and nostalgia she even said this many times before the show so that's what it is.

Well, artists do tend to leave messages in their art and never mention them with the intention of the public slowly finding it. I for instance believe that the performance had all to do with america and the fallen value (the fallen stars) and it spread a message of unity and love with various shades to Trump. Everybody sees something different, and thats the beauty of art!

Ok, she said that... She said many things.

But I don't see how, her being a fckn spider, has anything to do with nostalgia or/and unity.......

Same legs but upside down:

(Glass Spider tour)

Also the Manifesto of Mother Monster reminds me of Glass Spider (song)

Gaga's whole career is pretty much a tribute to David Bowie, there's way too many similarities and I don't think that's a coincidence.

These kinds of things are interesting and good work bringing it all together, I think it's a valid interpretation of what she's done in her career thusfar.

That said, I tend to think that this deep level of references isn't as meticulously planned out as some of these fan theories suggest. I think she's just inspired by the same set of things for all of her performances, so they naturally have some similarities. Not necessarily coincidence, but not a creepy pre-fame Gaga planning her superbowl performance to align with Bowie's last album either. lol
