15jocart 2,305
The Born This Way bridge was revolutionary when it was released, but in the 6 years since its release we have come even further in being sensitive to micro-aggressions. The bolded words are considered offensive to varying degrees. Do you think Gaga should alter the lyrics at all? No matter gay, straight, or bi Lesbian, transgendered life I'm on the right track baby I was born to survive No matter black, white or beigeChola or orient made I'm on the right track baby I was born to be brave Personally, I would love to see her come up with some updated lyrics. It would once again prove her a pioneer for positive representation (transgendered is an incorrect term and chola and orient are straight up borderline slurs). The first one is a very easy fix: change "transgendered" to "transgender" life. It's super easy and would help get rid of the outdated term "transgendered." It would be amazing if she changed "chola or orient made" to "Muslim or immigrant made" or something of that sort....a very apt shout-out to current political events (and if you don't think this song is political you've got a big storm comin'). Otherwise, "Asian or Hispanic/Latino made" would be great. There are tons of other words for said peoples. I'm not really sure who gave Gaga the green light to use "chola" in a song anyway. Thoughts? Fanta 5,019
Please. People cry and whine about everything, this song was made to make the excluded feel included and if they want to cry too then let them.

Seeka 12,372
is that extra "ed" rally pissing of the transgender community that much? As for the rest, I think Gaga really wanted to make a shoutout to specific people, but made a horrible job of it. Though I think some people will admit, it's hard to know exactly what to call people from Mexico, since it seems to change every month. I'm pretty sure "mexican, latino, hispanic, chola, cholo" have all been on both sides of what is/isn't okay to call people from Mexico. Orient may need to change as well. I have no idea who let that one fly by. But honestly I'm not sure if anyone cares. The song just didn't age well in certain areas, that's all. Carsonu25 277
I truthfully can see her changing lyrics on tour maybe, but this is the Super Bowl where she will want people to sing along...

"Transgendered" is an adjective, "transgender" is a noun. Just like you wouldn't call someone "colored," you say "people of color." And "Hispanic/Latino/a/x" is sufficient. The whole thing isn't a big deal but watching her perform it is really cringeworthy now because more people are aware of these issues.
