Formation is about African American pride, but she didn't really make any political statement Yeah it caused a huge stir in the US. Her background dancers were all african american and dressed in black panther uniforms. White people were pissed lol
ComeToMama 4,351
It would keep everything simple if she just kept it to the music... but I love Gaga because of the fact that she uses her platform to reach out to people and try to spark change. Celebrities who dont use their platform as an opportunity to speak to the public (cough taylor cough) are a waste of time and a waste of talent. I think Gaga should make a very brief and very subtle statement because sometimes less is more. This is her moment to shine so she has a right to be selfish and keep 99% of the show about her. She should have the time of her life. But she also has the entire counties eyes on her so if she wants to be influential and speak out, Sunday is the day to do it. Slay us all Gaga, musically and politically, cause lord knows 2017 needs help in both categories.

Ricardo 7,900
and that's the main reason I hope she doesn't make it political, it could go both ways, in one instance Trump's followers bashing her and then people praising her, it could affect her career badly, she doesn't want to be the next Dixie Chicks
Bonkers 29,708
She will not talk about Trump at the Super Bowl. Gaga is known to be someone who loves and respects institutions. The Super Bowl is a great American institution, and it's known for being a safe space away from politics. She will respect that tradition. I imagine that's why she's quiet now....just to avoid creating controversey out of respect for the SB. She has serious principals about respect. ElectricAlley 1,737
I hope her performance is very indirectly political. I'm hoping she will have some type of underlying theme of love, acceptance, and unity. But nothing that screams "F*ck trump!"

I hope she sings the bridge PROMINENTLY, maybe even with no music and just the piano for this part: No matter gay, straight, or bi, Lesbian, transgendered life, I'm on the right track baby, I was born to survive. No matter black, white or beige Chola or orient made, I'm on the right track baby, I was born to be brave. She doesn't need to do a speech or show shocking images. Her music is the moral ground she stands on, she believes in her work and I believe she'll let it speak for itself. That song by itself is perfect for America rn... I understand that but Trump si the president now. IT'S WAY DIFFERENT. He uses fear in his favor. She shouldn't. Born This Way is more than enough of a statement. Beyonce wasn't in danger, Gaga is. Beyonce did the 'statement' with a black president in the White House, Trump's vice is a homophobe. We can't ignore the fact that Trump supporters don't want her to do the SB and 50k signed to change the artist. another shot before we kiss the other side
Anderson123 38,785
Well I'm here for the show to be about the music but.. it's the SuperBowl, it's a big opportunity to say something. It's Gaga and it's probably the only moment she'd have full attention to speak about what is going on.
ThisGuyTony 31,086
She shouldn't. I'm just ready to bop to her live performance of Perfect Illusion.
Music 15,215
i'm not even American but i think that patriotism and nationalism is the epitome of the average American. criticising the current President on the biggest stage (despite millions being anti-Trump)? the last thing Gaga needs to do is make some kind of political statement in front of the world. this moment should be Gaga's and Gaga's only. hoeslay 4,193
I think Gaga and a lot of us too don't necessarily care for her commercial success. Gaga couldn't possibly RUIN her career with a political statement per se. Backlash maybe but I doubt it. Even if her career was "ruined" she'd still honestly be set for the rest of her life and would still be making music and even if it isn't commercially successful many of us will (myself included) will continue to support her so honestly I don't think it makes a difference. Gaga has expressed many times she doesn't care about money or commercial success.
doppelganger 3,949
Beyonce has a way of expressing things without actually saying anything... I wouldn't really call it activism, because she stands to lose nothing. It's a smart move though, I gotta say.
SEANGT 5,389
At this point I think she has a responsibility to say something. However, if it's not a part of the performance it won't make too much sense. If it's just some words while she's at a piano (and the crowd boos her) it won't be powerful enough. It would have had to have been/would have to be something big and integral to the performance. That said i won't be mad if she doesn't. I think there will possibly be some stunt pulled by protesters in another way like those guys that hung a banner that said "#DIVEST" for the no DAPL movement in a stadium recently. I'd be even more down with that. Greenpeace get on it.
