PeterPan 0
This article sums up everything you need to know in a easy, concise manner: http://www.cnn.com/2017/01/30/politics/trump-travel-ban-q-and-a/ President Trump signed an executive order Friday night to keep refugees from entering the country for 120 days and immigrants from seven predominantly Muslim nations out for three months. The countries affected are Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Libya, Yemen and Somalia. This is the "extreme vetting" Trump promised during the campaign, but it still seems to have caught folks by surprise. Team Trump apparently never ran the order by officials at the Justice Department. Homeland Security officials weren't given much guidance about how the order would be implemented or enforced. Thus the confusion and chaos. The ban snared green card holders and people with valid visas alike. Some travelers who were in the air when Trump signed the order weren't able to enter the country when they landed. Some were detained. Others were sent back to where they flew in from. Lawsuits began to fly and by Saturday night a federal judge had temporarily and partially blocked Trump's order. Is it legal? That's the million-dollar question. Presidents have broad power in shaping immigration policy, but many critics feel parts of Trump's order are unconstitutional and discriminatory. There's already been pushback from the courts. A federal judge in New York granted an emergency stay for citizens of the countries included in the ban and rules they can't be removed from the United States. A federal court in Washington issued a stay stopping travelers being detained there from being sent back to their home country. Federal judges in Boston ruled officials can't detain a person on the basis of Trump's executive order. The Department of Homeland Security said on Sunday it will comply with judicial orders not to deport detained travelers. So, courts are fighting back against this so called order, which wasnt even run by the Justice Department. The question is can Trump even make this order? Knowing full well that's not how it works. That's not process. But he did it anyway. Which leads me to believe he either does not care, or he has an ulterior motive for doing so. Bio 23,538
My boyfriend was born in Brazil but his great grandparents came from Lebanon like a 100 years ago. He's not muslim, he doesn't even have a religion, doesn't have any family that he knows of in Lebanon and still, with a valid travel visa, even in Obama's government it was always hard for him to get in the States. Every time we traveled there together I would get in with ease while they would keep him for at least an hour asking him questions and a lot of the times they would say nasty things to him. I can only imagine that for the next 4 years I won't be able to travel to the US with him.

We all knew full well that Trump was never fit to be President. Part of me began to think he only ran so Hilary would win at one point, because throughout his campaign he made himself look like an idiot. I never actually took anything he said seriously. I figured no one was actually that dumb to try to ban muslims and deport all illegals, repeal LGBT rights which has taken the LGBT community years to achieve. Loosing any of that is not progress, it's just going backwards. It's like slavery being repealed and 3 years later a President re instates slavery as legal or whatever. Chrisspaulsen 52
And still there are some who are provoked when people from other countries bother discussing U.S politics, since it "clearly doesn't affect anyone who's not American"....
