Morphine Prince 109,650
Steve Bannon, the chief strategist and senior counselor to President Trump, said the press should be ashamed at how out of touch it is with the United States and just “listen for a while.” Bannon, who used to edit the far-right website Breitbart before heading Trump’s presidential campaign, delivered the contemptuous indictment of the news media during a phone interview with the New York Times on Wednesday. “The media should be embarrassed and humiliated and keep its mouth shut and just listen for a while,” Bannon said. Trump generated controversy by bringing Bannon — who is associated with the so-called alt-right movement — into his inner circle. Some critics describe the alt-right as just a rebranding of white nationalism. During the phone interview, Bannon requested to be quoted upbraiding the media as an “opposition party” to the current administration. “They don’t understand this country,” Bannon said. “They still do not understand why Donald Trump is the president of the United States.” Bannon said the “mainstream,” “elite” media have been “100 percent dead wrong” and called out the Times and the Washington Post by name. Rebel Heart 5,142
Trump and the alt-right: *Wants to censor the media for no valid reason* People on the left: *Punch a nazi and protest racists and sexists from speaking on university campuses and from moving into the white house* Trump and the alt-right: "Oooooomg what about free speech!!!111 You cucky SJWs are against free speech YOU'RE THE REAL FASCISTS!!!111 Stop trying to take away my First Amendment rights!!!111 #HitlerDidNothingWrong" Hey Girl is the best song of Gaga's career #Justice4HeyGirl
Batwings 12,957
This "out of touch" argument needs to stop too. Trump lost the popular vote, and more people showed up to protest his administration than attended his inauguration. If anyone is out of touch, it's Trump and his cronies. People often ask themselves how Hitler rose to power and committed the atrocities he did. Look how easily people are manipulated by "populism" movements and easily fall for fascism. Not saying Trump is like Hitler, but look at how people are led to believe things right now in 2017, just imagine back in the 1930's when people did not have access to the Internet and were able to see different perspectives. Depends on who you ask "-And finally only 18% of voters think it's acceptable to punch a Nazi in the face, to 51% who say it's unacceptable and 31% who are unsure on the moral quandary of our times. Clinton and Trump voters are actually in alignment on this with only 18% of each saying it's ok to punch a Nazi. 78% of Jill Stein voters though say that they are pro punching a Nazi, this may be where Hillary fell short." http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/main/2017/01/americans-think-trump-will-be-worst-president-since-nixon.html My hypothesis: Bannon does not actually think this himself. He wants to improve his relations with Trump, perhaps he's scared of others getting more power than him. He's basically repeating what Trump has allegedly said in private circles: "Trump has been resentful, even furious, at what he views as the media’s failure to reflect the magnitude of his achievements, and he feels demoralized that the public’s perception of his presidency so far does not necessarily align with his own sense of accomplishment." http://www.gq.com/story/white-house-report-trump-sad The best way to get to Trump is not by talking to him in private, but by talking to him via the media "And what we know about Trump from his presidential campaign is that some of his top staffers — most notably Kellyanne Conway — often communicated to the boss via the media" https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2017/01/26/the-leaks-coming-out-the-trump-white-house-cast-the-boss-as-a-clueless-child/?utm_term=.95b0c87006ea#comments Conway has successfully built a good relationship by sucking up to him through the media "The president admires her dogged and fearless defenses of him and respects her on-camera ability to dodge, defuse and deflect whatever comes her way, according to numerous Trump advisers. On the eve of his inauguration, Trump called Conway on stage at a black-tie dinner to sing her praises." https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/the-first-days-inside-trumps-white-house-fury-tumult-and-a-reboot/2017/01/23/7ceef1b0-e191-11e6-ba11-63c4b4fb5a63_story.html?utm_term=.59d717402276 it's a power struggle within Trump's team, looking for who can suck up to him via the media in the best way. FMB 465
“The media should be embarrassed and humiliated and keep its mouth shut and just listen for a while," And listen to what? Trump's a rambling, nonsensical idiot who pulls crap out of thin air. He literally has nothing intelligent or substantive to say. He's a walking jester albeit a dangerous one.
