Quite what he meant by that is unclear, whether he means she'll be huge or her style of music will be huge in the future. I don't know when he said it either, whether it was just after she'd had her huge success in 2013 or if he said it not long before he died. Don't mean to be disrespectful, but even legends can get it wrong. I never thought Bowie would say such a bold statement about someone so young who had a lot to prove, can't sing all that well, doesn't play instruments and was essentially a one hit wonder. Yet he rarely commended other young artists who were much more talented who had achieved much more. Of all the amazing talents out there, he chose to call her the future of music? I don't get it. I learned in many cases legends' opinions are bullsh*t, and they can be some of the most arrogant people when it comes to critiquing artistry. So if I were you, I'd pay that statement no mind. And considering Lorde seemed to be channelling a bit of Bowie androgeny in Yellow Flicker Beat, well...Of course, they can be just as disparaging of other artists who are clearly inspired by them. We've seen how awful some of her Gaga's inspirations have been to her. Yeah, they want people to be inspired by them but not too much. Rumours are that Bowie never liked Gaga though we don't know why. Yet, she was much closer to him from an artistic standpoint and a lot more talented than Lorde and yet Lorde is the one he praises? Very strange.
