All police are evil in their eyes so even LGBT ones (who've never been convicted of anything or done anything to 'oppress' anyone) are automatically guilty and banned from their own pride events by an outside political group. Police wanting to promote inclusivity at an LGBT event is now considered racist oppression to the point where not only are they banned but Pride is forced into denouncing all police and making that broad statement. I think it's a tragedy. Police used to beat on gays and arrest them. Now they want to be involved as best they can in spreading inclusivity, tolerance and showing the gay community they are there for them now, even if they weren't in the past. Do they really think that to exclude police will bring us forward? All that hate is dividing us more and more. YOU CAN'T FIGHT HATE WITH MORE HATE! There are a lot of LGBT police officers that want to celebrate pride as well. Excluding them is horrible and hurts our community. Pride is a celebration of love where people come together in peace. Bounty 799 Posted January 20, 2017 Share Posted January 20, 2017 Oh boy, what a mess. I moved to Toronto last year, been to the 2015 pride, and I've never thought something like this would happen. I understand both sides of the story, I'm from Mexico and I know what being discriminated feels like, but in this case I think the way BLM was trying to handle this is not gonna be very effective in the end. I've been investing and yes there's cases of discrimination and police brutality (way less than the US thought) it's awful, it has to be talked about and fixed, there has to be a way for white queer folk to understand this issue, but they way they're doing it asking to ban the police seems extreme. I think if anything it has managed to divide the LGBTQ community, I'm on the fence on this one also because I know if I say I don't agree to a BLM supporter they're gonna simply call me racist. There should be a forum for BLM and POC that feel unrepresented to express their concern and inform people, open dialog, understand each other... anyway I hope this gets resolved and everyone can Pride happily. Canadians are EXTREMILY lucky to have the police and government they have, trust me on this one.
