"Pride Toronto say it has no plans to backtrack on a vote Tuesday night that would ban all police participation from this year’s parade at the request of Black Lives Matter (BLM)."

So, police floats (typically allies in the force and out officers) are now banned. This turn of events does not come willingly for Toronto Pride though. BLM, an obscure radical black activist group, took over Toronto Pride recently and stopped it completely unless they complied with their demands - one of them being banning police at LGBT events.

Once again, the BLM "movement" proves it is scum.

Pride is for everybody, including the brave men and women (some of which are of color or are LGBT) that protect us.

This is disgraceful and disgusting. Almost as bad as when the BLM protestors hijacked and protested the funerals of the Orlando shooting victims.

BLM is radically anti-LGBT.

NOBODY SHOULD BE BANNED FROM A ****ING PRIDE EVENT

Also note: the police floats at Pride events are almost always LGBT/out officers themselves.

LGBT people literally banned from their own events.:grr:

Just now, Jan Wayne said:

Keep them out :clap3: but, wasn't this the same pride that BLM accused of not sponsering minioroty gays

You realize there are LGBT officers that can no longer participate in pride, right?

the whole f*cking idea of pride is to be proud of who you are no matter what you do. This is fundamentally an attack of the whole f*cking idea of pride.

And since when are there rules at a Pride event? Last time I was at one, there was a man in assless chaps, walking his "boyfriend" around on a spiked collar dogleash and adult film stars all over the place. Totally counterintuitive from what it looks like!

Ironic you say that since this Toronto pride has a history of negalting POC gays and not giving them funding :nails: reap what you sow. http://m.huffpost.com/ca/entry/12107614

Disgusting. How does barring Police from interacting with the community in positive ways help them? They're just creating a bigger gap and forcing themselves to be distanced. The more distance they create the worse relations between police and the community will be.

ONLY POLICE FLOATS ARE BANNED

THEY CAN STILL COME ENJOY THE PARADE LIKE ANY OTHER VISITOR WOULD .

AND POLICE WILL STILL BE THERE FOR SECURITY FOR OBVIOUS REASONS :grr:

So Toronto Pride has banned Toronto Police Services from the Pride parade (woo hoo!) and now a number of white dudes are pissed because, boo-hoo, police will be excluded from Pride. You are in the wrong here, gentlemen, and your racism is showing. Let’s walk through this:

1. Since when do you love the police so much? Don’t be weird.

2. OK, so your brother, or whoever, is a fantastic cop and you don’t want him to be excluded from Pride. Tell him to take his uniform off. (If only it were that easy for black people to sidestep scrutiny.)

3. You see this as not being “inclusive” of the police. Well, it’s endlessly better than endorsing an institution that is actively oppressing black people, right now, in 2017. (Look into the disproportionate number of times black people get carded by police. Read about the database of information Toronto Police has been collecting on black citizens. The police are not protecting black people the way they are protecting white people.)

4. Pride is for queer people. Black queer people are queer people. If black queer people tell us they don’t feel remotely cool with TPS at Pride, then TPS doesn’t get to be at Pride. Your unmitigated love of the police does not trump this.

5. Remember there’s a big difference between one great police officer you know who is not racist and the institution called Toronto Police Services, which is a documented system of racist oppression. That is the beast we are fighting here.

6. Angry white people: just stop for a second and listen to what a real life black queer person has to say about the matter. Consider the possibility that in this, you are probably wrong, and the reason you are probably wrong is that you are not black and cannot know of what you speak. So just listen to what the experts (black people) have to say about what’s going on in racism lately. You’re probably a bit out of touch on the matter, idk.

7. Yes, Black Lives Matter and Pride Toronto fully expect to boot Toronto Police Services out of Pride and still have protection from Toronto Police. You should too. That is what we pay police to do.

8. Listen to POC.

9. LISTEN TO POC.

10. To all my non-white friends, queer and otherwise, I’m so sorry about this. The white community must look so scary right now, and we’re the ones running everything. I hope you see Toronto Pride’s decision as a sign of hope that things will get better, if slowly.

History? You mean less than a year ago.:emma: the whole reason BLM crashed the pride is because POC gays were not being highlighted at these pride events.

What they heard were concerns about the funding and support for Pride programs run for and by black folks.

These events are vital, said Newbold, because “a lot of black youth may not be connected to any other black queer community spaces.”

Then there’s the cops.

“The atmosphere of Pride [isn’t] very inviting to black queer and trans community members due to the massive police presence,” added Newbold.
