According to Wikipedia, Coldplay finished recording their album in August 2015, meaning that they knew they were performing in August at the latest and that's when they started inviting guests. They probably had a good idea over summer that they'd be performing. Remember when Elton John said that LG5 might be released in 2017? She was probably always planning to center the new album around the Super Bowl, and considering debuting the lead single there. Don't think she had a collection of Bad Romance, Judas, ScheiĂe songs just sitting there ready and decided to scrap them. For all we know, she just had random ideas about them and unfinished demos that she decided to keep ANGEL DOWN (Work tape) and handed it to Mark Ronson to talk about what they could do together with it and write more stuff. If we got Joanne the way it is then maybe it's because the stuff she wrote before was not good enough to be released, like the 50+ songs they wrote for Born This Way.
