I think the scene where she falls in Paparazzi is a reference to Vertigo.

Poker Face - Hold'em Texas

I like it rough - I wonder if "Cause it's a hard life" is a reference to Queen's song "It's a hard life".

Paper Gangsta - "Sometimes I felt so Def in the Jam" -> Def Jam

Government Hooker - Reference to the relationship between Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe

Americano - "If you love me we can marry on the West Coast / On a Wednesday, en un verano, en Agosto" I had to read an analysis to understand all the subtexts in this song, I learnt that at the time, the West Coast was the region in the USA where gay marriages were the most authorized. And I don't remember exactly but apparently, there was a law signed on a Wednesday in August for gay rights, I have to look it up to know what it was exactly.

The multiple mythology references in ARTPOP : Venus, Himeros, Medusa, Apollo...

Venus : "Mercury, Venus uh ah" -> I wonder if this is a reference to Freddie Mercury, implying she's kind of her female version.

Dope : "Up heaven's stairway to gold" -> It always makes me think of "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin, I don't know if it was made on purpose.

Gypsy : "Like Dorothy on a yellow brick / Hope my ruby shoes get us there quick" -> Reference to The Wizard of Oz.

Applause : Reference to Koons.

John Wayne : "He laughs running through the red lights" -> Maybe a reference to prostitution (prostitutes have red lights they turn on if they are "busy").

I'm going to list all the references I can find in Applause MV.

im pretty sure "He laughs running through the red lights" means running thru the red lights :awkney:
bcs they are in the mustang and they are speeding , too fast, she holds tight :awkney:

I love the Beatles but did not know this! Indeed "today I found out"

I find it amazing how an apparently non-sense lyric is in fact a very sneaky and clever tribute to one of her biggest inspirations :flutter:

How about in "dance in the dark" this whole part :

Marilyn, Judy, Sylvia
Tell 'em how you feel girls!

Work your blond (Jean) Benet Ramsey
We'll haunt like Liberace
Find your freedom in the music
Find your Jesus, find your Kubrick
You will never fall apart
Diana, you're still in our hearts
Never let you fall apart
Together we'll dance in the dark

reminds me of madonna's vogue:

Greta Garbo, and Monroe
Deitrich and DiMaggio
Marlon Brando, Jimmy Dean
On the cover of a magazine

Grace Kelly; Harlow, Jean
Picture of a beauty queen
Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire
Ginger Rodgers, dance on air

They had style, they had grace
Rita Hayworth gave good face
Lauren, Katherine, Lana too
Bette Davis, we love you

Ladies with an attitude
Fellows that were in the mood
Don't just stand there, let's get to it
Strike a pose, there's nothing to it

Vogue, vogue

do anyone else see it was it intentional accidental? Or am I reaching?

David Bowie: Let's Dance

Gaga: Just Dance

David Bowie: Fame

Gaga: The Fame

David Bowie: Fashion

Gaga: Fashion and Fashion!

David Bowie: Lightning bolt

Gaga: Lightning bolt

David Bowie: Young Americans

Gaga: "Wild, young American"

Madonna: Vogue, Express Yourself, La Isla Bonita

Gaga: Dance in the Dark, Born This Way, Alejandro

Also: Bruce Springsteen in Born this way (the album), Queen in You and I, the disco stick, Radio Gaga, and heavy metal music in general.

Too bad Bowie seemed to dislike her. It must have been devastating to her, especially after getting that tattoo.

To David Bowie (well here as Ziggy Stardust)

That's not Bowie as Ziggy Stardust. It's him as Aladdin Sane.

That was completely intentional, just like Born This Way with Express yourself. I see it as an ode to Madonna. Too bad she denied it when it backfired and Madge was a bitch to her.

- I've always felt like the Castelbajac hands outfit from Applause music video was a reference to Bowie's cobweb costume with fake hands, some people say that it was referencing the Janet Jackson Rolling Stone mag cover, but I don't know:

- This one can be a reach, in the BTW video when she's giving birth she has some black legs like spider, they look exactly like the stage from Bowie's Glass Spider tour but up side down, and the Manifesto of Mother Monster reminds me of the Glass Spider song intro.

- Also David Bowie related, the Applause wings can be a reference to Bowie's skeletal angel Glass Spider tour prop. It can also be a reference to Icarus though.

- In the Applause music video she's referencing a scene from the Little Mermaid, when Ursula takes Ariel's voice.

- She's been referencing duality with the ying and yang (Fame and The Fame Monster) and in the Applause music video:

- And wasn't she referencing Tinkerbell at the VMA's 2013 with the big tall paper backdrop so she would look small, and you know Tinkerbell lives for the Applause.

- Teeth in Bloody Mary:

"My religion is you"

"I'll tell them my religion is you"

Blueberry Kisses in Let Love Down

"Just sing a little song, Blueberry Kisses forever"

Nope wrong that's him as Ziggy Stardust, but Aladdin Sane was the name of the album of that cover

Also, the Bad Romance music video outfits (the white ones) are influenced by Where the Wild Things Are... Which I also kind of consider a book/movie reflective of the Gaga and Monster relationship. The Bad Romance choreo is inspired by Michael's Thriller moves as well.

In addition, Gaga is a huge fan of Monster movies, there are a ton of references to movies like Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, etc, in her work and imagery, as well as Cruella De Vil and 101 Dalmatians, and Alfred Hitchcock's movies, which she is also a fan of - Rear Window, Vertigo, Baby, etc. And also, Stanley Kubrick's work, such as The Shining and A Clockwork Orange, and film noir and French verite films.

The Fame fragrance film is also inspired by Star Wars, Darth Vader, etc.

Early performances of Paparazzi at the Monster Ball were inspired by Rapunzel.

Alejandro music film is inspired by Liza Minnelli and Cabaret.

And in Perfect Illusion, the key change, indicative of the Golden Ratio, showing her knowledge of classical music, a lot of her music contains those classical elements of composers like Bach, Beethoven, etc. The most straight forward was the Alejandro video. The Greatest demo was heavily influenced by Pachelbel's Canon by German Baroque composer Johann Pachelbel.

Aladdin Sane is one of his many alter-egos, it came after Bowie killed Ziggy, He said Aladdin Sane was Ziggy under the influence of America, This is Ziggy Stardust:
