That's not what I said, read again. I'm highly sceptical as to whether a situation outside of constant media coverage would be handled to the same degree, yes. The police are likely to be under scrutiny and feel more pressure to find the culprits, than say, a random American tourist on holiday in Paris.

no...you said "if they weren't in the media eye"...what does this mean exactly? that they aren't rich, or that they aren't famous? or both?

you can be wealthy and not in the media eye. if you were wealthy but not in the media, and had millions of $ of jewels stolen, i'm sure police would devote time and resources to recovering the stolen items. Maybe instead of me reading again, you could be more specific.

I can't para-phrase for you again, I've done it twice. It read 'I wonder if it would have received such police attention' meaning the amount and to that degree. There's undoubtedly more pressure to solve a crime that's been highly publicised rather than one that has not. The police are more open to scrutiny if so many people are aware of it's existence, period.
