So do you think the ghettos/poor neighborhoods are the fault of white society? Or do you think it's all black people's fault they are in bad situations?

Not the actual ghetto but the ghetto mentality yes. It's your choice to go out and gangbang and shoot people, use and sell drugs, etc. You can get educated by going to school, problem is they don't want to (I'm talking about all the criminals/thugs)

When the Chief of Police was asked if there was a racial component to this attack he said,  “I don’t think that at this point we have anything concrete to really point us in that direction.”  That is a problem. When the majority of main stream press broke this story they did not mention the attacker's racial motivations. That is a problem.

Observing and commenting on this double standard does not belittle issues facing African Americans. This isn't about white privilege.

I personally don't find it enlightening or interesting to have discussions with people who follow tumblr talking points, so I'm going to conclude our interaction here. Have a lovely night. :)

A little, but I suppose I shouldn't be.

You're the one concluding, and that's fine, but I'm open to discussion, always. I don't know what a tumblr talking point is supposed to be. I don't spend time on tumblr.

The quote about having nothing pointing in that direction is something that is frequently said at the beginning stages of any investigation like this, regardless of whether it involves a person of color or not. That's my point. But you're choosing to get upset that a white person wasn't immediately declared a victim of a hate crime by literally everyone, when plenty of black people who are victims of hate crimes actually get the same treatment.

The reason is, a hate crime is a legal term. The commentators on these shows are usually legal analysts, they are not going off of knee-jerk reactions. They are analyzing whether it is a hate crime in the eyes of the law and whether it can be proven, and this is an important discussion to have.

Your outrage sort of further confuses me, because this case was almost immediately declared a hate crime by the investigators and by most news stories that I have read. The idea that there is some large-scale conspiracy by the media to be softer on black perps just doesn't hold it's water. One ABC article that you read didn't say what you wanted it to say, and now you're outraged?

Do you get this outraged when the same thing is done to people of color on a daily basis? Because that's what happens. I'm just pointing out that it seems to be something you only notice when the victim is white. If it was something you noticed when the victim is non-white, you'd know that this is literally standard procedure, and the way these perps are being talked about on the news is the same way white perps are talked about. ACTUALLY, that's not true. They are being vilified to a more extreme level. Not that what they did wasn't heinous...

But the story I posted about the white kids in Idaho who raped a black disabled boy at school with a wire coat hanger... and the boy got community service... this is the double standard, and you're acting like the double standard somehow affects white people more. It just doesn't. Period.

You're practically begging to be oppressed. Sorry, you're fine.

Okay so you still don't get it. Yes, to an extent, it is their choice. But they are at a disadvantage, and it is much harder for them to succeed and get out of bad neighborhoods. You're talking about it as if it's easy to just stop and leave and go get an education. It isn't easy for a lot of these people in these neighborhoods. Sure, we should hold criminals accountable in any situation. They know it's wrong. But for some of them, it's their life, and it's the only thing they know. They can't imagine ever being out of the system. So please have some compassion for these people. I'm not saying crime is okay, I'm just saying that it has to do with poverty and we shouldn't use it as an excuse to say people are bad just because of their skin color.

It's also easy for someone like you to say, who has never grown up under those circumstances, that it's their choice. Sometimes there are so many crazy factors going into it that they feel they don't have a choice. If your whole family and all of your friends live that way, and you grew up that way, what do you think you're likely to do? Don't sit from your position of privilege and judge these people without putting yourself in their shoes. Their lives have been, from birth, vastly different from yours.

You could say that about anyone. 'You aren't Charles Manson! You don't know what he's been through!'

Look at you, comparing marginalized black people who grew up in terrible neighborhoods to Charles Manson!

I don't know why Manson was the way he was, but it certainly wasn't because he didn't have opportunities.

Manson's case is a micro case. A case of a single person. I am speaking in macro terms about large groups of people in the black community who are systematically oppressed, which creates disadvantages that lead to perpetual poverty and crime.

I'm literally baffled by the point you're trying to make.

Crime is never okay. I get it, it's not. But making all of these assumptions about what it's like to grow up in a Chicago slum without having lived it and without even caring to try to understand it is really, really low, and it won't help the bottom line. It won't help solve the problem if we don't acknowledge why the problem exists.

I see you, hiding behind your Rihanna icon, but you're probably as white as me (that's me in my photo, I ain't hiding).

How does it feel when all of your idols disagree with you? Gaga and Rihanna would vehemently oppose your worldview. And for good reason.

Seedy disgusting people.  Trump was just an excuse for them.  It was clearly a hate crime and they should be thrown in jail for decades.  What if a white person tortured a black person while yelling "F*CK WHITE PEOPLE F*CK OBAMA", that would be a hate crime yet people don't call this a hate crime?  It's clearly a race issue.

However, there are many more white people than black people. Let's look at percents not just a number.

the guy that posted that doesn't understand the stats and posted a very racist version of "the truth." you're right about the percentages. also, people rail on about black on black crime without looking up white on white crime. the majority of murderers kill their own race.

It was clearly a hate crime, and they should be thrown in jail, I agree!

Take a look at this:

This is what happens to white people who do the same thing. Community service.

So, who is the double standard benefitting again?

What the 4 people in Chicago did was terrible, and they're going to be punished to the full extent of the law.

Because they're black.

Yes, it was a hate crime against a white, disabled person, it absolutely was.

But how many cases are there where it's the opposite, and people don't seem outraged? White people don't get outraged until they feel like someone is attacking them for their race, which is really, really rich.

And it WAS called a hate crime almost immediately. They were all charged with hate crimes. Why are you so up in arms about this "double standard." It's baffling to me. It might have been a race issue, but it's also a race issue every time a white person does it to a black person and they get community service. That's the double standard. Not this.

It's a huge issue and a huge problem.  Any race committing any sickening hate crime like that should be thrown in jail for decades without any chance of parole.

It's very disheartening to admit that country that I love is very divided and racist against blacks and whites.  It's very sad the justice system isn't very justified and fair.

I agree with you there. But if you think the level of racism towards white people is equal to what minorities face, you're mistaken. And if you think the justice system isn't unfairly biased against black people, you're mistaken. Like the article I posted shows, white people often get a pass in the justice system. It is NOT equal, and that is what this is about.

I agree with what you just said, but,

When you say, "racist against blacks and whites," with no qualifier, I kind of am taken aback.

If you're not willing to acknowledge that the overarching system largely, in a macro capacity, benefits white people and shuts down people of color, I have an issue. If you're somehow trying to make both sides equally culpable, or if you're saying it's just as bad for white people as it is for blacks. I have an issue there. Study history. Study sociology. Study.

YES, there is prejudice on both sides, but if we don't acknowledge systemic racism that benefits, usually, whites, it's going to be really hard to heal and move forward.

I know that, it stems from their parents and friends also being uneducated so they don't know any better. They think that's just the way of life for them but I for sure have no compassion for thugs. And I never said that people are bad because of their skin color, they just so happen to be black. And you do have a choice and privelage later in life when you're an adult (if you didn't get a chance to as a kid) to enroll into school and studies and get your degree and get out of the hood, they know it's wrong but they don't care and America needs to change that.
