Million of chickens are slaughtered everyday and probably most people in here had it for dinner, the only difference is that they didn't get their hands dirty, but it's basically the same!

And not only chickens, but cows, porks, fish, etc. It doesn't matter the purpose, the animal suffers anyways.

I am absolutely devastated that she is the most visible witch right now. In our community we have many many standup figures that are doing great things in the world that deserve to be the face. BUT UNFORTUNATELY that's not the case and it only seems that my religion is discussed when people are fired up about AB or Halloween...I constantly feel a need to inform others and defend. Especially because people already think she's crazy and they think her witchcraft practice is just a part of that.

I can probably say that witchcraft is probably the most stable and sacred thing she does and she is very informed and knowledgeable about the subject...but definitely not the best representation of our community..But then again I wouldn't judge the entire gay community based on public gay figure's actions and behavior but maybe that's just me.

The animal sacrifice aspect has been such a thorn in my side because I don't do it or know any people that do, but my religion does in fact come from our ancient ancestors sacrificing animals in a very respectful and purposeful way, but has fallen out of favor in modern times because we simply don't need to do it. Our ancestors sacrificed farm/game/herd animals to please the god or to offer it to the god in exchange for a strong harvest and strong livestock and they did so with a deep respect for the animal's sacrifice to the village and with respect for all living things (which is the very foundation of my religion). Some religions have maintained this aspect, and unfortunately one of our most visible practitioners likes to post shocking things without context or helping to inform.

Do I condone killing animals for sacrifice? Absolutely not and many of us don't. But some traditions do and I respect that because I understand the reason and the history behind it and I know they treat their sacrifices far far better than any food company and also respect and give thanks for the animal's life.
