Roar, We Can't Stop, Summertime Sadness and Royals were all big competition, but it did great anyway. Same with DWUW, without video. 92M audience, it did great. Peaked at #7 on Pop, #12 overall. Radio WAS there for her, they were stanning regardless the GP 2013 backlash. And, well, but the time G.U.Y. was released, the era was already dead. I don't blame them. Things got messy since PI. And after the video which incentivized no one to watch even more, I'd say she pulled her own plug rather than radio on the debut single. I would say it was A mixture of her not caring for it anymore and the gp really not being there for it. This era needed a strong first single to really push it and PI was not it.
