I just don't think shock factor is what makes a good performance. When I look back at her past performances, the ones I remember the most are the ones she sings her heart out and shares her soul with the world. Marry The Night on Alan Carr, You've Got A Friend In Me, I Wish, Bang Bang Bang, Do What U Want on Alan Carr, ARTPOP on Jimmy Fallon. There was a time Gaga wanted to shock so much that eventually nothing was shocking anymore.

OMG. She puts her heart and soul into every performance just by the way so your point becomes so redundant. :what:TBH, I still don't get the point of Joanne as an era, either she is being cryptic or she doesn't know what she wants to put across. I'll just say that I will have no expectations from Gaga now, she can slay one day with her choreo, outfits and voice and the next day she can recycle her ideas for a MV. :saladga:

Yeah right. See you on the next thread where you'll be complaining about the era again.

you are completely proving my point in the OP Lol.  You need choreo, outfits, and whatever you define as "good" Music videos in order to "get the point" of the era.  The point of the era doesn't reside in any of that stuff.  Thats exactly the disconnect I'm talking about.

Pop fans were "slayed" by Gaga's walk down the runway and the wings popping out at VSFS.  I bet the fact that it was with the song John Wayne is essentially immaterial... it could have been any song because to a lot of you the important thing was her attitude and some pop up wings.

I kind of don't know why we are making some sort of comparisons in relation to the song and the art of the performance, it's all intertwined, John Wayne was the perfect song for her wings to pop out like that. It's all related. You kind of wouldn't see her sitting on a stool for 3 minutes signing perfect illusion and having put no energy into the song. The thing is that Gaga herself upheld herself to such a standard that it is completely complex to try and outshine herself. She has also set a music industry standard and other artists are being more daring with videos and performances and it's such an expectation to have these things in the industry now. We live in a world were something can go viral in a matter of minutes/hours. Labels that want the success of their artist and who openly control the artist will make these high end videos and watch them get millions of views. The only video in recent times that has billions of views that doesn't have an outstanding video is Hello by Adele. That is because it is a great song, but it is a song ANYONE can relate to, anyone can like that song and everyone probably knows at least some lyrics, that song spoke for itself even though it's relatively generic. The thing with Gaga is that Joanne has gone in a direction that is different, and hasnt been as commercially successful. Not a bad thing... Monsters and stans are just so accustom to her being on top, and thinking she would rein at the top when she dropped this album, without fully realising that 3 years can change so much in the music industry.

Although some days I wish we had these huge performances and art shows, I still have old stuff to look at. But the music speaks for itself, she has so much control in what she puts out and she puts so much of her blood, sweat and tears into her work and we should be proud to say that we stan for a REAL ARTIST. She's not a UMG manufactured money maker. She is real and she is authentic, and in today's age where anyone can get a hit (ala sh!tsmokers) her authenticity is an achievement within itself.

Sorry for the rant, I just think we need to appreciate rather than discriminate.

I love the scheibe gaga and I love the come to mama gaga.

There's nothing wrong with showing people another side to you, this album probably took a lot to release for her because she knew she would lose some little monsters who she wanted to make proud.

Ps- I work in an auto store and the company music system played Hey Girl this morning. I was scalped

Her attitude has been important for making me a fan, though. Not just her visual style and attitude, but also the attitude in her voice. I don't think I would have become such a fan if it wasn't for The Fame Monster era (although I discovered her recently). I bought the Monster Ball Blu-ray, and the part where she is covered in blood while singing Teeth (among other songs) is so cool. Performances like that have made me think of her as a metal artist doing pop music, and it made me a big fan. Now that I am a fan, I will listen to whatever she does, because I have discovered that I love her voice so much. She is so great with Tony Bennett too, but I might never have noticed if I hadn't already become a fan. I hope people give the new Lady Gaga a chance, though. Maybe she is less unique now, but she is still one hell of a singer and songwriter, IMO.

it seems you stanned gaga after cheek to cheek. she has already proven her musical abilities and shouldn't keep on doing that. a simple yet iconic strut actually brought more light to the song and the overall experience of the song. gaga is known for her ecstatic energy, attitude, visual aesthetics and performances. she can do that with joanne too  but i think she wants more fans to leave now since ARTPOP. :(

i think we all imagined a visually pleasing video for MR with her on a horse or her in a forest or her in front of the moon or something better than a white room with a pink ramp.

That's nice but it doesn't really contribute anything to this thread.

Show hands that I'm not disconnected I guess LOL

Okay let me elaborate.

I agree with the OP mostly. And I don't force others to love Joanne but I would say POP fans better don't expect POPga to return soon. (She will be giving POP performance once or twice including SB I think)

After ARTPOP and C2C, (and all her instagram of farming, horse etc.) , Joanne makes sense. It would be awkward to see her come back as BTWga suddenly. And honestly I don't see Gaga will go back to EDM/ Dance Pop that soon, looking at HOT100 this year, music genre is confusing nowadays and those dance music gaga used to make are not in favor anyway.

More importantly, I don't think "POP" is what gaga wanted to do at this point.

My current job managing a retail store, I have managed the store for 4 years, the first 3 years i exceeded every single target amazingly, every year i succeeded more than the year before and i kept out-doing myself. This year is going well BUT it is hard to top the last 3 years because i raised the bar for myself by succeeding so well. Same applies to Gaga, there will always be a year or period of time where you just dont know how you will conquer your previous success. Sometimes it takes a fall to rise stronger. PS- Do not say ARTPOP was her fall, her management F*CKED that up + she was never fully recovered physically and emotionally from BTW tour.
