Police kicked out of Cheesecake Factory, chain apologizes

Correctional officers were reportedly asked to leave a Tacoma Cheesecake Factory outlet because they were carrying weapons, but the restaurant chain explained that this was not corporate policy.

On 20 December 2016, Washington State Corrections Officer Miriam Nichols posted a message to The Cheesecake Factory Facebook page explaining that she had been refused service for carrying her firearm into a Tacoma-area outlet of the restaurant chain:

I am local law enforcement and 5 coworkers and I were told to leave by the general manager, Will, of your Tacoma Mall location, because 3 of us were wearing our badge, gun and were visibly identifiable as on duty law enforcement. We were told the guns are not allowed whether you are law enforcement or not, they are not welcome. Everyone in our party were extremely upset at the lack of support we received at this location. One of our group members informed her husband who immediately contacted the establishment and was eventually routed to Will who told him that corporate has a strict no gun policy and that no person carrying a firearm, to include on duty law enforcement, we're not welcome to eat there. When we walked in, no one in our group saw any sign that said no firearms allowed.

According to a statement released by Cheesecake Factory Corporate Headquarters, uniformed officers are allowed to carry their weapons while dining, but, they said, the managers at a Tacoma Mall outlet misunderstood the policy:

Our policy is to allow uniformed and identified law enforcement officials to possess their service weapons on our premises. To the extent that there was a miscommunication of our policy, we sincerely apologize.

Cheesecake Factory also responded to Officer Nichols directly via Facebook:

Miriam, our policy is to allow uniformed and identified law enforcement officials to possess their service weapons on our premises. To the extent that there was a miscommunication of our policy, we sincerely apologize.

Officer Nichols later posted to thank Cheesecake Factory "for reaching out and making [the situation] right"

This reminds me of the other day when I was at a restaurant and a security guard walked in with their gun but they were wearing a jacket over their uniform. The gun was visible though. 

Made me uncomfortable. I honestly don't feel comfortable with seeing someone with a gun anywhere. 

Police officers are the only ones that I let it slide with.

There won't be any drama because no one will want to highlight their hypocrisy and double standard that police officers face.

Everyone will run to the defense of an Arab boy who lied about facing discrimination, but no liberal will EVER defend a cop who was actually denied service. Don't expect a response from anybody that defended that awful kid on that Delta flight to comment in this thread lmao.

There is no hypocrisy and there is no double standard. 

My brother, my dad and grandpa (retired) are police officers. The training a police officer has trained to use the weapon has nothing to do with the mentality of the person or officer with the weapon. People aren't scared of the weapon itself - they're scared of the person in charge of the thing. This isn't a liberal or conservative thing. 

In a day where people from all walks of life, political stance, training, education, religion, licenses and social status are abusing their power it's no wonder people are uneasy around guns.

And all 3 of my family members - one in 3 years, another in 25 years and my grandpa in 42 years of serving and protecting all agree whole heartedly.

Do you care to discuss further?

I don't see anyone dragging the cops here though. It's honestly nice to see them apologize as it was a misunderstanding from the Cheesecake Factory. This was peacefully handled so I don't see why you want drama?

I think it's more of an alert that another human being could take my life easily with a gun. Not simply "fear of the unknown"  

I don't mind concealed carry. Open carry is a no-no from me. Fortunately most people are sane enough to not be displaying their weapons for all to see.

I'm not talking about guns or policing policy?

I'm talking about how liberals will defend an Arab kid for getting kicked off a plane but they refuse to defend our selfless police officers when they're discriminated against.

I never said I was pissed at people bashing cops?

I was simply drawing attention to the fact that liberal members defended an Arab attention ***** before they knew any of the fact (turned out he was lying), but nobody defends this group of people in a situation like this, even though they're the same people protecting them everyday. 

And this thread is about respect for police? Why would I made another threat about police respect? We don't dupe threads on this website tyvm

It makes me uncomfortable when a civilian walks around with an open gun, but I've never heard of someone actually he scared by cops because they carry guns?? Especially in a Cheasecake Factory lmao?

We need to keep in mind that civilians murder more cops than cops murder people.

Honestly it would make me so uncomfortableto have police there with guns. I'm so glad they don't have them here.
