Oh God this makes sense, this gives it a new whole other meaning. It makes me so sad to even think about Gaga committing suicide :(

I'm starting to like the video more and more with all these theories and after watching the Perfect Illusion music video. It is starting to make sense. :duck:

I've always thought of MR in relation to suicidal thoughts because that particular notion hits me on a personal level, and even though it's not how Gaga described the song, it's how I interpreted the lyrics. However I didn't put that together with the video and I really like this idea.

Particularly how you put this; "She didn't want her sister to suffer the same pain that her father suffered when his sister Joanne passed away at a young age." Together with the "stay Joanne lyric" from the title track... Yeah this makes it seem way more powerful. Whether it was intended or not, I'm sure it's not far fetched. If it was the intention, I guess it's not an easy thing to convey without being too corny/literal. So I'm really glad that you shared this thought!

I'll tell you one thing that's for damn certain. I'd be un-repairably broken if she ever committed suicide. She's been my rock for the past 8 years and until people have walked a mile in my shoes and know my story, they don't have a right to say that my devotion to her is creepy. She was the first person to love me unconditionally for who I was. I clung to her for dear life because I was terrified of falling back into that deep dark hole of self doubt and self hatred.

I love you monsters. I'd be unfixably broken without you

While it doesn't make the video any better for me, OP's theory honestly gave the song, for me, a lot of new dimensions.

I never connected "stay" from MR with "stay" from Joanne. Great analysis.

I thought the same after I listened to it a few times. It does make the video a lot more meaningful to watch it with that in mind!

Just the thought of losing such a kind person that has helped so many makes me almost cry

I guess it does make sense on some level. But would such an act not be something you'd allude to more during Perfect Illusion? Just thinking since the only suicide that could be symbolised in that video is a drug overdose.

Million Reasons definitely makes sense to add the suicide symbolism to. But i don't see how Perfect Illusion does? :duck:

Going out on edge and then getting back from the help of friends and family dosen't have to be about suicide. :emma:

Gagas love

Wow omg what a great analysis. And the rosary beads tho. Definitely she wouldn't want her sister to experience the same her dad did

So I've watched it 4 times. And the last time was the only one I watched PI first. I was kinda let down at first but now I get it.

The MR video, as well as the "Joanne" music videos, are not the extravagant performance art that Gaga has been putting out before. These videos are her AS her. Living this life. It's so much more real and raw.

I often wonder, even though she denies it, if the PI video really was about Taylor. She's so upset and heartbroken and is raging in the desert. In the MR video her friends/family come to find her and pull her back up.

I think it's about moving on and having the strength to keep going after something traumatic (like a breakup). "Just need one good one to stay" could mean stay in the industry, stay in this life....

Just my thoughts.

iuts about taylor we all know it

I've been experiencing loneliness for at least 4 months now so I completely "felt" the video, even though the visuals didn't amaze me like other videos but honestly I don't even care now. And I totally share this interpretation, I didn't think about that.
