juicyjuicy 1,985
It's not radio friendly. Period. People comparing it to Adele's Hello...like, yeah, they're both ballads, but the songs are SO different.
SpadesToStart 3,444
Ever since 2013 program directors/DJs have not not liked Gaga. DWUW, G.U.Y., and PI all could have been hits if they got the radio support that Ariana, TS, or Katy gets. Now, you could argue that all those songs didn't have a "radio-friendly" sound and that's why didn't get played. But that theory falls apart with regard to Million Reasons, which is your standard ballad fair and sounds just like Hello, Stay, Say Something, etc.. Furthermore, every time Gaga has done promo it has risen into the top 5 on itunes for several days, which obviously means people like it. This makes it clear that radio does not want to support Gaga. And without something truly viral, there's no path to a hit single without radio.

Sure she's had songs played on radio but the vast majority of her hits, with the exception of a few, have a viral music video to accompany them and make them hits. When she started slacking on that front, she started flopping. Thats what worries me about her going forward. She's probably never going to be huge on radio or streaming since historically she never was to begin with but she seems to be over the big budget theatrical videos which will seal her fate before anything else. Radios probably pay attention to that the most, not the itunes charts anymore. And definitely not to those overhyped shazam charts Radio pays attention to streaming, iTunes, Shazam and call out scores. There are various other factors in play, such as label support, and legal payola.

Radio freindly doesn't mean only certain types of songs. Radio friendly means songs that listeners respond to. So far, the song has had excellent response from people that have heard it. If they played it on radio, then I'm certain we would see the same type response from radio listeners.

Just because a lot of songs on the radio are uptempo, doesn't necessarily mean MR has to. It's literally the most radio friendly song on Joanne. @BloodyMonster and @Travis stated this, but songs like Hello, Take me to Church, Say Something, etc. are all songs that did extremely well, despite not being uptempo. That's not a valid argument. 🦠🧙♀️🥀📸🎉👻🕺🧟💊💖☎️🔪👤🐺🌱🌎

Million Reasons, from what I've seen, is one of her most well received songs from the GP, just look at the YouTube audio's like:dislike ratio, and the comments. It's relatable, it has a great melody, and it's something that no one's really going to expect from Gaga, which makes it all the better. Plus, it's also the holiday season, and fall/winter time. Ballads are great to release/promote during these times. I mean, you're not going to hear Dancin' In Circles and Jingle Bells on the same radio station. 🦠🧙♀️🥀📸🎉👻🕺🧟💊💖☎️🔪👤🐺🌱🌎
