There's no doubt this is the future for simpler stores like grocery stores.

I was reading comments on reddit too. It seems like a good idea but what happens when if it stops working? Then the whole store would shut down.

It's tedious as hell to tag every single item. Only very few companies can do this due to economies of scale.

EEK they'll need to do lots and lots of testing

software

hardware

to make sure all the items are scanned

but not more than those "purchased"

All the items are probably tagged with RFID

Probably not, the tags would be pretty easy to get rid off tbh.
And they would have to have close contact with your phone, and still not every phone has NFC.
The iPhone for example only uses it for ApplePay.

I think it's a mix of tracking your face through the store (computer vision), locating where your phone is with Bluetooth and WiFi and sensors who notice which and how many items you've picked in the shelves.

The tracking should be fun, privacy-wise :lana:

I do like the idea, but it's a bit of a privacy concern for me tbh.

They will have gantries at the exit just like libraries. They probably combine that with bluetooth beacons to track your position in the store.

Love everything Amazon already offers and this looks really cool and innovative.

Are these going to be stores that Amazon creates, or they going to partner with already established stores and companies?

Probably just their own stores. Don't think they would port their technology to other competitors.

Just more useless technology coming at us in my opinion.

The future looks scary if technology literally takes over all simple jobs.
