Donald Trump broke 37 years of US foreign policy with China by having a direct phone call with the President of Taiwan. In a move likely to infuriate China, and complicate relations with Beijing, the President-elect spoke with President Tsai Ing-wen. Taiwan considers itself a self-ruling island but China considers it part if its sovereign territory. If he is going to acknowledge Taiwan as a country by doing this, that is good. U.S. chose to ignore Taiwan in fear of losing China as an ally.... We're not recognized as a country cos the other countries wants to be on China's good side. On the one hand I agree with him, but on the other hand I'm scared that China will be mad and start being more assertive themselves. You don't want to create a Russia 2.0 (but actually powerful). He doesn't care about Taiwan, and you can bet your bottom dollar that when his needs suit a strong relationship to China, he'll toss you under a bus.
