Aren't Greatest Hits generally just singles? And she's technically had only 17 (or 18) singles in her pop career...some of which could definitely not be classed as hits.

Seems like such a cash in, but if it's true, I guess the decision just comes from Interscope. it's not like Gaga cares much, or at all, about sales these days.

The Immaculate Collection came out in the 8th year of Madonna's career and sold 30 million copies, the biggest selling greatest hits album of all time and she was only two years older at the time than Gaga is now. 

Its a very smart move on Gaga/Interscopes behalf. Her recording career is currently on a bit of a downward slide in terms of commercial performance. Had Joanne been more successful, the Super Bowl would  of been fantastic promotion for it. By February it will be largely out of the charts and most likely see that much of an increase in downloads from her performance. They need a product to push, something to keep her out there and cash in on all the exposure. This was always going to be the case if Joanne didn't perform to expectation or couldn't produce a hit single.
