Why Are We So Hard on Gaga?

I think partly because everything is so 'meta', we're too aware of Gaga's potential to be an icon due to what she's achieved already. People have always presumed that she is the next true music icon, yet I feel like in the past with other music icons people never assumed their icon/legend status whilst they were still in the early parts of their careers (yes Gaga is still very much in the early years of her career), or at least to the same extent that we do with Gaga. So because of that perceived idea of her as a legend already, we hold her to a different and extremely high standard.

That Gaga will be back at some point, she'll have an artistic "boom" at least one more time.

I understand your feelings though and Id say that it wouldn't be so bad if this era didn't feel so empty and uninspired. I miss the AP days even with the no videos drama, the album had too many fillers but the songs that were good were really good and iconic and those looks we got, it was a pretty fun era.

I'm happy she lowered the bar so low with Joanne though, it can't get worse than this. :koons: I'm not saying the album is bad of course, but most of it gets too boring too fast and most of it sounds been there done that countless times before.

I don't want to drag Gaga but there's a lot of artists (including pop) that are releasing better material and doing stronger performances than her now, for me anyway.

I still love her but I can't pretend that I'm enjoying her work as much anymore.

Who?

Just explain dont drag its not necessarily

In the end we will have differents opinions and that it

some prefer lemonade  too pimp a butterfly or broke with expensive taste like second coming of jesus for me its ..nope.. And i have my reason

but for me someone that can call better than gaga in performance and creative concept like now is FKA Twigs

she is genius next bjork with better dance performance

Haha no I wouldn't drag you over asking! :laughga:

In terms of just pop music, I think the best example would be Allie X. She's taken Gaga's spot in making pop music with some actual meaning. Recent songs - Old Habits Die Hard & Too Much To Dream

In terms of live performances, I think pretty much every popular rock and/or indie band are doing better than her. I know that sounds horrible to say but the whole stripped back vibe Gaga is going for right now isn't doing it for me. The interaction with the crowds are awkward, the persona comes across forced and she looks a little awkward at all times without some choreo, a character to play or a piano to hide behind.

We are hard on Gaga because she's one of the greatest popstars ever and it's very hypocrite to accept her as less than that (and that's what fans and even herself are doing).

To be honest we've been realising who Gaga really is since ARTPOP, and how much she's influenced by her team, and how far her musical experience goes. Ever since middle-ARTPOP she has been taking control of everything and the results are mediocre compared with everything she has done with a proper team behind her.

It is an extremely great album though. Maybe not the second coming of Jesus but it is fantastic :emma:

Lol I honestly don't know why some people are so hard on Gaga.

I totally get someone not liking the era, that's a matter of taste. No one is going to like everything she does.

I also understand that her fans hold her to a high standard. She set the bar for herself very high, very early on.

But the people who say they're "over it" and then keep coming back over and over to complain and be negative...those are the people who confuse me. That just seems like a waste of time. If you're over it, why not move on?

Honestly, a lot of this is her own doing. This was the supposed to be the perfect pop comeback for her after 3 years but instead of breathtaking costumes, eccentric performances, over the top videos and her classic pop bops, she gave us Joanne. Don't get me wrong, I like Joanne but this new direction is really hard for fans and GP to embrace. The GP forgot her even more because of this era.

She could have had a slayage comeback but she didn't. But of course she doing what she wants to do and this is what makes her happy. We have to respect that. She obviously knows that she isn't the no. 1 pop star anymore and the GP doesn't care for her anymore,if she cared about this, she could have the GP's attention but she doesn't want to.

Anyway what I'm saying is, whatever she's doing, she'd doing for herself. As fans, we just have to be patient. I'm just waiting for the Superbowl performance. That's my last ray of hope. Other than that if the next era is still this "country" stuff then I'd have to give up on her....

Give me my purse, I'm out of here :madge:

Honestly though, maybe I do give a **** for gaga as a person, as the daughter of her father, as she says, and not as a public figure. You wanted a comeback Album? ARTPOP was a comeback album. The gp didn't like it, and the spoilt bullshit twinks left the fandom cause she wasn't number "1 anymore". While for me ARTPOP was when I saw a vulnerable side of gaga and it was truly the album that made ME A FAN! And literally this album is all about learning more about gaga as a human being, trying to be the best of you that you can and try to live a life that some people (like Joanne) didn't ever have the chance to live, and all you want is a F-ing hit to brag about....:madge:

Honestly bye :bye:

I do hope however, that Gaga has learned to shield her vulnerabilities since then

This! She has set the bar too high for herself. The media being hard on her is a different story, they're hard on her because they enjoy seeing her fail to live up to expectations, we are hard on her because we love her and we want to see her succeed but it's come to a point where we have almost lost the sense of reality. She has peaked long ago, and is a human after all. You can't expect someone to always be on top. I'm usually positive when it comes to this topic so I have some hopes about her re peaking once again. But that's just gonna happen when it happens...for now, all we have to do is to be supportive of her in the best way that we can and enjoy the beautiful music she's offering to us. as much as I miss "the old" her, I still love her to death and if she's happy doing what she's currently doing, then I am happy too.

Exactly. I admit that I'm hard on her sometimes but only because I love her so much. She's been my rock these past 8 years. Hell I even consider her my surrogate mama (long story). I've realized that by constantly being so hard on her and pushing for more, I've worn her out so to speak and she can't be there for me if she's been pushed to the max. I remember during ARTPOP, I told my friend Matt "something isn't right. She isn't happy".

She was so emotionally drained from constantly trying to be everything that people wanted her to be that she needed a break so bad. She was spinning out of control and she was on the verge of a meltdown. People have said that she took a break for 3 years because she didn't love us anymore. So not true. She loves us more than we will ever begin to understand but she just needed time to heal. I hope that from now on our relationship with her is strong enough for her to say "I love you more than you know but I feel like I'm losing it and I just need a break". This era, I don't care about the charts or the glitz and the glamour. I just want her to be happy. If anything ever happened to her, idk what I'd do. She's been my rock for 8 years. From now on I wanna be her rock too

I love you monsters. I'd be unfixably broken without you

We hold her to a high standard because of her early years. And i get she doesn't want to work as hard now and stuff but she has completely done a 360 and now seems to neglect her album, singles, videos and slacking in every way. To think she abandoned the ARTPOP era in like november and took a 3 year break...she hasn't even delivered close to what other average or basic singers have
