It's kind of pointless to claim every song is a copy, because otherwise how would musicians work. They need to get inspiration from somewhere(3). And just because a song sounds similar to another famous song, doesn't mean that the artist stole it(4). 

1) They don't only sound similar. Stereo is pretty much Sober sans vocals topped off with different lyrics and more instruments.

2) I think I have too, but similar chords don't equate to identical songs. There's a big difference between the words "similar" and "identical".

3) This goes beyond inspiration. Especially if they are selling music. If I drew a sketch that is an exact copy of your art but added a few words here and there, maybe switch up the colors to make it look all pretty, and then went along printing that design on shirts, phone cases etc.  and selling them. Only to get a pretty decent profit and give YOU zero credit. How would you feel?

(Btw, this phone case/shirt scenario is a real one that happened with an online retailer. I can't remember which)

4) I agree with you here. Last week after receiving our midterms, our Math professor and his wife were sitting at their dinner table discussing the midterm grades (his wife is bad at math btw). So after their discussion both the professor and his wife noticed something veeeery fishy about a couple of the grades and the answers. Two students had similar grades (not unusual ofc), but also the exact same answers. They made mistakes, and identical ones at that.

^ Just a little anecdote that I feel fits well here. They both could have worked together, or someone copied the other, or as the least likely case they both happened to have gone through the midterm the same way.
