Why are some of you talking as if Joanne is a critical failure and has a metacritic score of 20?

A few biased reviews does not amount to being "dragged" by the critics.

i don't know anything about critiquing music (lemonade is highly praised but the only song i like is sorry). idk i don't disagree or agree, i've never liked every song on gaga's album there's always one or two i never play.

Yeah I just hoped it would be different this time around. I guess not. Some critics have boxed her in to this Fame Monster image and for whatever reason they just want her to stay that way forever. I'm starting to get the feeling she will always be compared to those first few years of her career. She's a victim of her own success.

Very true. They expect her to top certain achievements when all she. Can realistically do is grow as an artist. I wouldn't fret about it. The album has been embraced by the public and many celebrity personalities. In the end, people will remember the general appreciation of the album rather than some reviews.

No I don't think anyone is saying it's a critical failure, but it's definitely more than a few negative or mixed reviews.

Like someone else said, Joanne is the album that the critics always wanted from her. They wanted her to strip away all the crazy clothes, the EDM, the outrageous lyrics and the performance art...and that's exactly what she's done (although I doubt she did this as a response to be critics). However now we have some critics saying she should go back to her old stuff and calling her a fraud because she's changed her music style and dress sense. It's obviously surprising to some fans, including me. But from now on I'm just going to accept that Gaga will be polarising in EVERYTHING she does, even if it's an excellent yet inoffensive country-inspired album with amazing vocals and analogue instrumentation. Apparently she just can't win.

I love judas SO MUCH but I canʹt look like a copycat of JLO!!!!

quite a number of the critics are pop music critics.  Many of them obviously wanted a TFM re-creation.

Many others criticized her for basically still staying "too pop" instead of fully committing to genres.   Many critics are not as genre-fluid as Gaga is and don't understand how she tries to mix things but is still pop at heart.

I've finally just stopped caring. So many of my friends, who didn't like or care for Gaga prior, loved the songs on Joanne, and that's what matters. The GP is here for it.

I certainly thought it would get a high 80's on metacritic, but now I've read some of the negative reviews I do understand where they come from. It's a strong album, but its still not too cohesive with its theme & the later end of the album just drags on compared to the explosiveness of the first half.

I actually like the second half more :awkney:

with the exeption that i dont like grigio girls much and I love Dancing in circles

But most of my fav tracks: Million Reasons, Angel Down, Hey Girl and Come to Mama are in the second half of the album :)

She could co-write an entire album with Jesus Christ and it would be dragged by the critics.

Yeah, but what Jesus knows about music? :oprah:

OT: At the end of the day, those critics are somehow irrelevant, more so in the age of social media and viral videos.

River

The critic are criticizing the artist and not the songs because everyone could sing them.

If 25 was by Gaga, the album would get bad reviews.

If Joanne was by Adele it would get the best reviews ever.

So it's not the album or the songs, it's the one behind the mic.

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy
