Katy Perry Haltime: Who Was Really Lip-Syncing?

So when Gaga was announced as the Halftime guest, I saw a lot of people on here already starting to pit Gaga's halftime vs. Katy's halftime.

One of the main things that Little Monsters say is that Katy wasn't singing live the entire show. But, it made me remember that when the halftime show first aired it seemed like Lenny/Missy were the ones lip-syncing, not Katy.

I think it's blatantly obvious that Missy Elliot is lip-syncing. Her tracks sound the exact same as they did when they were released and her facial expressions look exhausted, yet she doesn't sound an inch off. And Lenny, well I don't know his career well enough, but his voice definitely sounds too polished for what he was doing. And also I think he was pretending to play the guitar, but that's another topic.

However, all of Katy's parts sounds live. She doesn't sound perfect and you can see the few parts where she does sound a bit off from the studio version because she is dancing around.

Now I'm not a Katy stan, in fact you can see me pick her a part in other threads, but why is it that pop star fans are so quick to try and tear her down when it's the other two artists that weren't doing what they were supposed to be doing? It's a bit of a double standard to tear down the pop star but praise the hip-hop star (let's be honest, everyone on Twitter was praising Missy the night the show premiered).

Anyways, that's my two cents.

Edit: I really love how there are so many people in here that are judging certain parts for being live and certain parts for being pre-recorded, but each one is contradicting something else someone else said. It just goes to show that it's all up to people's opinions I guess. But the bottom-line is: even if Katy was lip-syncing, at least they did put in a TON of effort to make it seem live, but with Missy they just used the same tracks from the early-2000's.

Teenage Dream/California Gurls was lip-synced 100%

But no, you can hear parts in it where she sounds tired. She even has to take breathing breaks and misses her lines.

So, what are you basing that off of? You're missing the entire point of the post and you're delulu.

Hasn't Missy been lip syncing for the past couple of years now though? She lip synced W.T.F on The Voice last year.

In my messy era.

Have you heard about pre-recorded vocals?

"but you can hear her taking breath"

Well, maybe they pre-recorded it when she was rehearsing

I think most of Super Bowl half time shows of the past years are lip-synced, if not all. She lip-syncs to a pre-recorded track (maybe recorded from the rehearsals), not to the original tracks.

We all know gags will be singing live, giving us those incredible vocals

Monsters, in general, go the extra mile whenever it comes to bringing Katy down. Honestly, there was plenty of live singing in her performance from what I could tell. I'm not gonna run to go watch it again now, but nothing seemed too off about it then. I mean, I guess it could have been recorded beforehand, but I was convinced as I watched it, so whatever she did, she did it well enough. A lot of people loved her show.

By the way, the phrase is "my two cents." Not sure if what you typed was intentional or not.

I dont know if she lip synced or not but im not convinced either i just dont know

live pre-recordings are pretty popular too

These are pre-recordings without studio or autotuning so its just your raw voice. But they play this pre-recording to sound live but avoid mistakes

Whitney Hustons famous and high praised Super Bowl National Anthem performance was actually one of these

its definitely lip synced, she's one of the best people at covering it up, I think she really tried hard to make people think that it wasn't by putting in breathing. Maybe some parts weren't but for the most part it was

but the only person who I'm somewhat convinced didn't lip sync for the half time show was the first time Beyoncé did it (not the 2016 one, that was clearly lip synced)

Monsterious

it was obvious that she lipped every song except for the Messy part when she sounds breatheless and off key

when she sang i kissed a girl and she jumps and the mics goes off a little bit from her mouth but the voice stays the same... pretty oubious

She should have used better or enhanced recordings, because spoken word is all she can really hit :rip:

I enjoyed one part of her performance, and it wasn't even hers, it was Missy's...

A lot of the songs were partially lip-synced, for instance, in Dark Horse, she did like half of the lines in the verses and a back track did the other half, also during the chorus it was a backtrack and she vocalised.
