Why is Tove Lo | Lady Wood So Underrated ?

I listen to the full album and it's bad. Al the songs sound the same. There are a few that are good but it gets repetitive.

Kindness rules all.

I could not agree more about this. This album is pure perfection. There is not one song that I would skip (other than the intro's). I don't care what other people think about her or how well she sells because she is incredible to ME. Her stop in Toronto is 80% sold out and it's only been on sale for 5 days.

If you love her, that's all that matters!

Don't Talk About It is my favourite at the moment. I also love WTF Love Is and Lady Wood. Cool Girl, Influence and True Disaster were probably the best 3 promo singles I have ever heard before an album was released and the album does not disappoint.

I'm not a fan of it apart from a couple of tracks but personal opinion has nothing to do with how an album sells.

She doesn't do enough international promo. I hate to break it you, but the truth is unless an artist outwith your own country is given a lot of promo in your country, they're not going to take off as a massively successful artist in your region. Most people can barely keep up with the artists from their own country, so they have to have a lot of reminding that artists from other countries exist to even care about them. It doesn't go much deeper than that.

But also, she called her album Lady Wood and its cover art consists of a close-up of a woman's pubic region with the waistband of her shorts being pulled down slightly. Albums with such raunchy titles and cover art rarely do well. I'm surprised her label thought such a title and cover art was a good idea. She should have named it Cool Girl and had the cover be a close-up of her face.

Lol, it's one thing to say her album cover/title was risky, but it's another thing to offer up an alternative as boring as that one.

The "Lady Wood" title and cover were definitely provocative and risky, but that has been Tove Lo's style since day 1. She is the true unapologetic pop star and even flashed her boobs to the crowd when I saw her at an all-ages music festival here in Houston.

Could never imagine Tove Lo naming her album "Cool Girl" with just a simple shot of her face. That's not who she is and I would rather her stay true to herself then sell-out and be a cookie-cutter pop princess.

I like that she's slept on. It keeps her concert venues more intimate. Both her albums have been spot on. I've loved her for years. Glad she's got a growing fan base.

I loved Queen of the Clouds, but I am struggling to get into Lady Wood. Not sure why. I will try it again and some point.

Well, she's entitled to make whatever artistic choices she wants but she'll have to deal with the fact that certain ones are going to result in less sales. True, going for such a banal title and cover art would be boring but it would stand a better chance of selling. If you want your music to be promoted and sell, you have to make some more uniform choices sometimes. Not in every respect, just the ones that seriously count. And I think title and cover art is the most massive factor of if your album will sell or not. I have seen really bad titles and/or cover art result in terrible sales and no wonder. A title that makes people laugh at it or a cover art that turns people off will be bad news for sales. Occasionally, a bad cover can still sell but a bad title is the ultimate killer. I might actually make a thread about some of the worst album titles, actually. I'm sorry, but forget about the cover art, naming the album Lady Wood was a huge mistake. I think such a title is laughably bad (I actually thought she meant it as a slang term for the hair as in 'lady garden' but then when she sang, I realised she meant the female equivalent of an erection, which is even worse). The term 'lady wood' is not a recognised term and when teamed with such a cover art, it becomes really silly. She tried to go for controversy for sales and it backfired terribly. Raunch doesn't sell like it used to - in this current age, we view it as something artists do when they're not talented enough to let their music do the talking. Inaccurate, sure, but that's just the current feeling right now, like it or not.
