To be honest, the fact that Marry the Night was supposed  to be the first single for Born this Way makes me sad. I've never been a fan of the title song and I probably would've loved that era way more had MTN been the lead single (I think it would've had similar success as well).

MTN should have been the lead single. GP was thirsty for more songs so any song would have hit #1. BTW as the 2nd and TEOG - 3rd. Smash after smash

I know right ? This song is everything !! But I guess she wanted to use this slot for BTW and its message, much more polarizing than MTN. On the other handm Judas should have never even been on the album !

I don't mind Judas, but I thought it was a tragic single choice for several reasons. I know this has been discussed to death on this board, but I can't get over her label not allowing Sheibe to be a single. It would've smashed! For some reason, it didn't hit me how commercially friendly it is until recently. It's got The Fame vibes, but really fits the Born this Way aesthetic.

Girl I feel you ! I was SO disappointed with the singles this era. It's still my favorite Gaga album to date and so many songs smashed my head but were not picked as singles, it's a sad thing since it was a very visual era that could have offered us great music videos. Scheisse, GH, BM, HML...these would have been So great on a music video. And I agree, there were not that risky and radios would still have played them for a while before it eventually flops. The BTW album is my favorite but it's also the most frustrating

I feel like I would've loved the album much more initially had Marry the Night and Sheibe been the first two singles. To make you feel better, ARTPOP is my favorite of Gaga's....so just imagine how I feel with all the missed opportunities of that era. :poot:

Gurlz calm down... they released MR and A-yo as the promo singles because they didnt know which song should be chosen as the actual 2nd single... Dont worry. Gaga probably wanted to give A-yo a chance now, but GP and most of fans have spoken that MR is the thing they want right now.

They all seem to have a common theme too. Judas, Venus and A-Yo are all songs she was passionate about and that she believed could be hits. TEOG, DWUW and MR are all easy hits that she can capitalize on, and she was passionate about them, but it increased as the GP began to pick up on them.

As far Judas was concerned, I don't think that she ever wanted that as a single. Her singles choices were something like Marry the Night, Born This Way, The Edge of Glory, Scheiße, and something else.

Judas was what the label heard as the next Bad Romance, and they wanted a repeat of its success. They thought it was an "easy hit" for her at the time.

Yes, she did say that she never meant for it to be a single !

Also would like to point out that one of the messiest things about Venus/DWUW was the fact that, if I remember correctly, Venus had not even been released as a promo single yet. Either that it had not been out for enough time to even compare it to DWUW, commercially.

MR & A-YO have had time to settle into their respective spots on the charts after the initial preorder hype and garner a proper repose from the GP.

Just those four, but "Born This Way" before "Marry the Night."

Oh, and "Scheiße" before "The Edge of Glory."

Yeah as much as I love "Judas," it was the worst possible choice at the time. :smh:
