ReidOne 12,427
I'm really saddened by the passing of Pete Burns. Given this forum has many younger users, I wanted to take a moment and share a couple facts that some of you may not know about him, and why he is an integral piece of pop music history for many of the tunes we enjoy today. His mega hit "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" was one of the finest examples of 80's dance pop. Look up the word "bop" in the dictionary, and it should mention this song: Kesha's very first hit (with Flo Rida) on "Right Round" was a cover of this song. But perhaps more significantly, "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" was the first UK #1 hit by production team Stock Aitken Waterman, who went on to become the biggest pop music production force of the 1980's in the UK. After producing Dead Or Alive, they went on to produce a seemingly endless stream of #1 hits. Most notably, the produced ALL of Kylie Minogue's hits from her first 4 albums: They also produced Bananarama's mega hit "Venus" (which you could argue was referenced by Gaga on her song of the same name): They were also the team who brought us Rick Astley: ...and gave Donna Summer one of her only hit records after the end of the disco era: ...in addition to the Kylie Minogue connection, her sister Dannii also had a hit in the early 2000's with her mashup of "I Begin to Wonder" vs. "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)": So, before you write off Pete Burns as just another washed up 80's act who ended up on Big Brother, remember the chain of timeless hits that began with his music. Computer 10,973
Very nice summary and receipts. You Spin Me Round is such a bop, I can't imagine being in a massive club in the 80's and that's playing. 💚💛💕❣⭕💢💢 | ⓜⓔⓡⓡⓨ ©ⓗⓡⓘⓢⓣⓜⓐⓢ

Juvi 1,639
gosh, not to long ago I started listening to "That's the way (I like it)" & it's such an epic anthem of a song and has a timelessness that not many 80s songs achieved. Very sad to hear about his passing. Do you know how?

Chelseaaaaaa 1,453
Gaga also loved Dead or Alive. She has paid homage to Pete a few times visually.
