Sometimes, you just don't know when to ask if someone's okay, y'know. Gaga's got a lot on her plate. I doubt this would've happened if he had made his situation clear before leaving. He sounds bitter and is being shady, I didn't exactly expect hugs and kisses and neither should he. I hope his mother gets better though, best wishes.
