GawdGa 1,399
I was listening to Angel Down in the car and it kinda gives me Black Lives Matter vibes Shots were fired on the street By the church where we used to meet Angel down, angel down But the people just stood around I'm a believer, it's chaos Where are our leaders? Oh, oh, oh Doesn't everyone belong In the arms of the sacred Why do we pretend we're wrong? Has our young courage faded? am i reaching? ☠
Morphine Prince 104,944
It's about shootings. Someone on Twitter who said they were at the listening party said it was about Trayvon Martin and gun violence in general. You can even interpret it as something about Orlando, terror attacks, etc. Such a beautifully haunting song, it's becoming one of my favorite Gaga songs. Nebraska 404
I just can't... Give this ****ing album all the Grammys NOW. Angel Down is too powerful. It's growing on me, it was my least favorite, and now I'm seeing it's hugeness... No... This album IS A BIBLE.

REALITY 75,880
You're not reaching. It's definitely about the chaos in the world, and how (generally) people aren't really willing to do much. I too got reminded specifically of the Black Lives Movement when she sang the line "Shots were fired on the street". The song has such a strong and pertinent meaning, especially in today's times. Honestly one of my favorite ballads from her. 🦠🧙♀️🥀📸🎉👻🕺🧟💊💖☎️🔪👤🐺🌱🌎
doppelganger 3,928
I haven't heard the full song but it needs to be a single (along with MR). The message is universal.

"I'd rather save an angel down" Also reminds me about the shooting of people in that church in Charlotte last year around the time she must have worked on this with RedOne. "Shots were fired on the street by that church where we used to meet"
Gardevoir 9,812
It's not solely about shootings. It's overall about being lost in today's world. Everything that is happening is terrible, shootings, terroristic attacks, religious people blinded by religion and making judgment over other innocent people. Shots were fired on the street By the church where we used to meet Angel down, angel down But the people just stood around I interpret it as "something really bad happened there, in the place we thought is safe (church) and people did literally nothing to help, they just stood around watching the whole tragedy. It's really beautiful song. Sugar, spice, and everything nice.

Also in the beginning she makes clear she's talking about our current time "I confess I am lost in the age of the social"

Lextyr97 19,708
Definitely agree that it's about today's shooting. Im supposed to be asleep but this damn site is distracting me, so I'm just going to mention that this song, well the whole album in general, is very well written. I love it. sillynate 6,170
I see the gun violence theme in there, but a few lines make me think it's about her fall during the ARTPOP era. Maybe when she started writing it was about ARTPOP, but as it evolved or whatever it became something that I think is more personal and relatable. I think there are aspects of that sprinkled throughout but I think it's mainly a general statement that people don't look when others are down. They become desensitized on human issues.
