Why Do The Super Bowl NOW?

This isn't a thread attacking Joanne, I happen to love the album.

However, I don't understand the reason for doing the Super Bowl at this point in her career. During 2013, around the release of Applause (before the downfall of ARTPOP), I had thought Gaga would definitely have slayed at the 2014 Super Bowl because she had an impressive catalogue of pop hits.

Then at the beginning of this year when Gaga announced she would be releasing new music (and we all thought it was a return to pop) I still thought Gaga could do an amazing job at the Super Bowl.

But I'm shocked that they chose this album/era to throw Gaga into the biggest show of the year. We all know Gaga really gets into character (during Cheek to Cheek she acted as if she was solely a jazz artist and wouldn't touch pop with a stick) and now with Joanne she's acting very blue-collar and country (clearly not who she really is inside seeing as how she was raised in New York and preached that pop was the best type of music for 6 years of her career). Gaga's biggest downfall is that she gets TOO into character for her album eras. It's hard to pick a true "Gaga" and this era is the furthest thing away from "Gaga" we have ever seen. The Super Bowl is supposed to be a celebration of your career, a solidifying moment that you are one of the biggest musical stars to exist. And it's also to show off your catalogue of music.

So what I don't get is:

1. How are they going to incorporate the only songs the general public know (her pop songs) while still trying to push this "Gaga is just an ole' southern girl hangin' at your local dive bar"?

2. How are they going to incorporate any Joanne songs when no one even knows they exist except her (smaller than ever) fan base and pop bloggers?

3. Are they just going to ignore Joanne and focus only on the pop-star Gaga to give the audience what they want?

4. Or are they going to turn all the pop songs into indie-country-bangers to fit with the Joanne theme?

As I said, I love Joanne. And I'm certainly not one of those "STICK TO POP GAGA" fans, BUT if she's going to do the Super Bowl and try to win America back over, I really think she should have waited until she put out another pop-sounding album. When she announced she was working with Mark Ronson and someone from Tame Impala I thought we were going to get this amazing indie-pop album and I think that's what Gaga should have released if she had plans to perform at the Super Bowl.

It's just slightly annoying to be a fan for someone who wants to act like she wasn't a pop star from 2007-2014.

Anyways, that's my opinion. I had been thinkin' about it a lot and wanted to get it out in writing.

Because she is one of the biggest superstars on the planet, she is young and is at the age where she can put on some of the best shows of her career more naturally. A-yo is a very pop single and Perfect Illusion will be electrifying. Lady Gaga 2017 superbowl is a perfect fit really!

She is one of the most notable superstars and of course everyone knows the name "Gaga" but that's not enough to save her when most people don't know she has an album coming out this week and couldn't name a hit other than Just Dance or Bad Romance.

Yes, she did a lot of memorable things at the beginning of her career and people will ALWAYS remember the meat dress, but those things are starting to fade to the back and the general public isn't riding her wagon anymore.

PS: Title track Joanne is Indie Pop... Indie Pop would not fit in SB so I don't know why you expected such work from Gaga & Ronson but anyways, SB show is about 15 minutes, she can't play 20 songs anyways. Diamond Heart, John Wayne, Perfect Illusion, A-YO, Angel Down can all fit in SB atmosphere easily.

I feel like she will rework some of her old hits to be more rock sounding...kinda how she does at her concerts.  And she has already said that she wants to take the audience through a catalog of her discography.  I feel like she will do a nice blend of her old stuff while promoting her new stuff.  Plus, by that time, Joanne will be more known with hopefully a few well-known singles.

I think pretty much everyone knows just dance poker face paparazzi is everywhere still, bad romance telephone Alejandro I heard at the mall earlier born this way edge of glory, applause, dwuw, perfect illusion is a bit of a hit and hopefully she will have a few more hits soon too she has more than enough iconic songs. A lot more than say beyonce!
